Introduce Yourself : Would I call this a fail? by Elisabeth Zimmerman

Would I call this a fail?

Hi all,

I'm Elisabeth.

First off, I have been hanging out in the shadows of Stage 32 for about 4ish months now, and have missed out on each Introduce Yourself weekend in that time. A failure of a sort?

I'm an actor, writer and an American (from Chicago) living in London.

My fail: When I first moved here, I had a long string of auditions in which I had to do a British accent... and I was literally laughed out of at least 3 of them.

There was even one occasion where it was for a traditionally American musical, but I was told at the audition that they had decided THAT MORNING to set it in the UK instead.

Anyway, I do appreciate that it's all just feedback. And I have been working on my accents (Thanks, YouTube!) so that I'm hopefully better prepared for future.

But it's fueled my desire to write. I'm currently writing a sitcom about a household of immigrants in London, where any and all accents are welcome!

Let’s see…where do I start…lol. Well, my big fail this week was NOT getting into the Writers Lab. 2nd year in a row! Go me! Haha

LauriJon Caravella

I love the premise of your sitcom... would it be funnier if a Londoner was correcting an American on her American accent and not her British one? When you finish it... if you post it to Coverfly, I'd love to read it.

Richard "RB" Botto

Love this post, Elisabeth. So glad you decided to step out of the shadows and introduce yourself. Inspiring that you were able to take what you initially viewed as a negative and turn it into a positive. Hope the writing goes well!

LauriJon Caravella I have actually had a dialect coach for a show here (she was English) correct my American accent before she found out I actually was American!

And I haven't heard of that service before, thanks for bringing it to my attention.
