About Toni

Author, screenwriter, director

I hold an MFA in writing and have published five novels including, Under the Banyan Tree, my award-winning young adult novel. In addition to my novels, I've also written short plays and screenplays and was the recipient of a grant in prose writing by the NJ Arts Council.

Marty's Calling, my first short film, was adapted from one of my plays. Filmed in Brooklyn, Marty's Calling is my directorial debut. The story focuses on Nana, an Italian grandmother who takes to Twitter in order to get her grandson, Mikey, a job in the film industry. Nana's methods may seem outdated, even downright inappropriate, but she reminds us that love is timeless and that older people play an important role in our society. .

Marty's Calling, the short, is a proof of concept for the feature I have written. Additionally, I am currently developing, two other features, FreeBird, a psychological thriller and Brooklyn Summer, a period piece that takes place in heyday of disco.
