Filmmaking / Directing : James Cameron and Denis Villeneuve by Geoff Hall

Geoff Hall

James Cameron and Denis Villeneuve

This is gold dust. James Cameron and Denis Villeneuve talk to each other about Avatar and Dune, the changing shape of film and immersive and expansive storytelling, working with CGI, Directing and Production Design.

Here's a great thought: People want an immersive experience into the world and characters of your story. They want an expansive mythology, because the sense of the movie being an island is going away.

This was one of the key takeaways for me, as I like to work on projects that have, or are going through the process of world-building, that goes beyond the frame of the captured image.

Direction: In rehearsal. "Find the key moment of a scene and then protect it, when the shooting starts." JC

Production Design: Yes, help your Designer with light and colour palette, but also help them understand the world it belongs to and its atmosphere. DV

Enjoy!
