Screenwriting : I have an 80 and some pages for an hour long TV script. by Leo Johnson

Leo Johnson

I have an 80 and some pages for an hour long TV script.

Should I consider splitting it into 2 episodes or trying to cut it down further to fit better into an hour?

Maurice Vaughan

Whatever's best for the project. Split into two episodes like "To be continued..."?

Dan MaxXx

No, as a writing sample.

Ewan Dunbar

Its better to keep your pilot as one concise episode, otherwise if the audience aren't hooked by the end (or 5, 10, 20, 30 minutes into it) they may not be inspired to invest even more time into it. Maybe see if there are some storylines in the pilot that can be moved to episode 2. Writing a pitch deck to accompany your pilot will also ensure details you want to come out in your show won't be missed by the reader.

MB Stevens

Leo Johnson I agree with Maurice. Trim it or split it.

Jason Mirch

Totally agree with Ewan Dunbar - this should be a single pilot episode that you trim down. Try to get out at least 15 pages. Stick to the big hook and inciting incident for the pilot and then set the journey from there.
