So I sold something this week. 12 years it took to sell this TV project. This is a huge win because it shows that you can’t ever give up. The key to not giving up is knowing that you are developing something with “real working people you trust” and surrounded by others that can drive your project forward. It’s a big nasty dirty dusty vacuum developing things that is, but if you keep pushing and plucking though the muck you will find that loose quarter and win

the point is never give up but MAKE SURE you surround yourself with people that are not placating you but that you are getting constructive criticism for making sure your work ring and continue to write more/new material.

Dan Maxx it doesn't work that way. I negotiated deals for 20 years. Multimillion dollar deals (we my linked) and small deals. You get an offer and these deals can take weeks to close. But when the senior creative exec calls to say they are buying it and it is at the level we are playing in it is real. It can often take weeks to get the basics figured out then lawyers can take weeks to do they back and forth language on the specifics with business affairs. Smaller deals and company should move quicker but when a major studio or network buys something it doesn't work as fast as you seem to suggest. The quickest deal closure or cut check I've seen in all my exp was 5 weeks. And it was new writer who. has no previous quotes so the writer wanted his deal rushed and it ended up hurting him in the back end. Also the lawyers for the studio or in this case the network often take their time because they are closing many deals and don't care about how fast they turn around redlined contracts.

Never give up. But in the meantime stay smart. :) It took over 100 years for people to realize the best in cinema was still to come.
