Screenwriting : Next Steps by Aconda Williams

Next Steps

Hey everyone!

What is everyone currently working on?

I just completed my first pilot and I couldn't be more excited. I've started using the pitching service with stage 32 which I highly recommend, all the feedback was great and super helpful. At this point, I’m not sure what to do next especially since I’m fairly new to screenwriting and the business. However, I’ve used many resources through Stage 32 to aid in educating myself.

I’d love to connect with more creatives and if anyone has advice or can provide some direction that would be amazing.

Hi, Aconda Williams. Congrats on finishing your first pilot. Do you have a treatment (bible) and a pitch deck? They can help you pitch the show.

You want to have a portfolio of work as a screenwriter, so you should work on a new project. You can work on the new project as you pitch your first pilot.

I'm rewriting a short script.

Hi Aconda!! It is so nice to meet you!!! Stage 32 is such a supportive and very encouraging platform. It's nice to know that they value us as people, and they want the best for our success. Right now, I'm finishing a screenplay that I have been working on for a while.

Hi Aconda Williams! Nice to meet you and I would love to connect with you. I'm working on a pilot and a feature (both comedies). What kind of stuff do you write?

In my experience, if this is your first finished pilot and you're happy with it, the next thing I would do is write another one while just continuing to build those connections and sending out that first script. One of the most common things you'll hear from a rep or an exec is "what else you got?" But it also depends on your goals (staffing, representation, selling, working on features too, etc.)

I had a screenplay that I was working on. But not with passion. Then a few writers here said they would be interested to read it. So I have had some new ideas and passion. “Unfare” is now getting all my attention.

Payne Patchett

Hi, Anaconda. I've got a few things either in the writing process or in the planning stages. Mostly adaptations of anything that piques my interest, nothing specific to one genre, something to keep the workflow.

Carina S. Burns

CONGRATULATIONS on your first pilot, Aconda! I appreciate you sharing your pitching experience. I’m working with my screenwriter on a rewrite now that my synopsis is complete. Stage 32 is a tremendous platform for all creatives. Those I’ve recently had the pleasure to meet have blown me away with their knowledge

Christiane Lange

When I was where you are now, a director friend suggested that I distill the TV series into a feature. So I did. It was a great exercise in various ways. First of all, just tackling a different format, but it also got me to dig deeper into the nuts and bolts of the story and characters.

Alongside, I wrote a string of fairly awful shorts, but am now getting to the point of having a handle on that format as well. Shorts are nice as writing exercises.

Hello Aconda Williams welcome to stage 32. As everyone has said the best advice is to keep writing and working on the craft. A portfolio of work is always great and ensure you get the right feedback to progress your current projects further. The best thing anyone can do is to keep writing as the more you do the more you learn. Congrats on finishing your pilot. What do you like to write about? Knowing so can help you generate more ideas for future projects. Most importantly enjoy the process as it takes time. Thus, have fun along the way and continue growing. I am currently working on my third animated feature script and rewriting my second.

Congratulations! Completing your first pilot is a MAJOR accomplishment. Pat yourself on the back. Yeah, finding the next step is hard especially after feedback. Incorporating it is good but remember to stay true to your vision and find a team that fits you!

Congrats Aconda!... I see the comments covered anything I would have said, cheers and best of luck.

Aconda Williams

Thank you so much, everyone! Love all the feedback and I'm certainly going to keep working on new material. Can't wait to check out the work on each of your profiles :) Best of luck

Aconda Williams

Emily J Great advice, I absolutely love the material I just completed and have received great feedback. Most of the time I take to dramas although I'm fairly new to writing screenplays. My goal is to develop and not simply sell so that I can continue to grow as a writer and learn. But I know I have to expand upon the work I have.

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Aconda Williams. Let me know if you need screenwriting advice.

That's so awesome Aconda Williams! Well done on creating something and continuing to follow through with it. The pitching services are such a great way to hone the business part of screenwriting. You've already received some great suggestions from other here about moving forward. If you're still unsure of which steps to take, hit up Jason, j.mirch@stage32.com, he's great at helping.

Vicki Rosenthal

Working on a sequel to one of our finished scripts; also working on a polish and a rewrite as well... (Thanks for asking)

Gary Keyes

Congratulations, Ms. Williams! Keep pitching and keep creating!

Harry Loeffler-Bell

I'm in the refining the pitch stage, as I'm also trying to use the pitch services. Once it's in a place I'm happy with I'll also be in the "now what?" camp.

Getting my docs ready for 2023 FFF workshop in March (sponsored by Goethe Institute, same guys did me free of charge trip to Munich + per diem) Academy Award winners mentor among others and the sponsor covers everything (I hope parties included) and sometime August gonna visit PriFest, my neighborhood, see if there's some local taste for my new feature...
