Hello everyone!
I had introduced myself a few months ago, but I got caught with a lot of work and didn't follow Stage32 anymore, so I'll give it another go. This time I'll be on it, I promise!
I'm Michele, Italian filmmaker based in London, UK, and I graduated last year in Film Production, specialized in direction. Since then I've been on plenty of projects, every month I'd be on at least two. I direct and assist directors on short films, music videos, promos, and what not. I also co-founded a production company. The goal was to create jobs rather than go and apply to them. I love being on set and just experience the atmosphere of creatives coming together.
I'm now battled; I don't know which of my scripts I should consider directing next. My goal is to level up the production value and run for international film festivals to build meaningful connections around the world. Ideally after that short film, I will undertake the path to directing my first feature.
One question for you:
For a director, do you think the first feature film should be a big launch, made when it's worth distributing it around, or can it be done at anytime, even with lack of experience on such big projects?
Thanks for reading!

You could also post your feature film question in the Filmmaking/Directing Lounge (www.stage32.com/lounge/directing).

Great to see another Londoner on Stage32. There's a physical film makers event going on at Framestore's London offices on Tuesday 25th, have a look, there are some of us attending. https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/lets-make-films-april-2023-monthly-meetup...

Great to meet you! To answer your question, I would say make your first feature when you feel confident that it will be a quality production and a good representation of your creative sensibilities.

Nick Waters That's a good point! I'll want my feature to be a launch for me and possibly be known for that.
