Hello from Hong Kong,
I'm originally from San Diego, California, but I have lived in Hong Kong since 2006. Six years ago, I retired, got bored, and decided to write science-fiction stories as a hobby. On Amazon, I've self-published five books and one collection of short stories, Cosmic Portal. Now that Covid is over and we're all back to traveling (So far this year, Thailand and Taiwan, and Macau next week), there's no telling what new extraterrestrials I'll meet and write about. Stay tuned...

Welcome, Michael. And a great question by Ty. I'm also curious how you enjoy the self publishing process and if you've ever considered going the more traditional route.

"This Book is a Murderer" is a cool title Michael, nice.
Hey, Michael A. Clement. How was Thailand and Taiwan?

Maurice Vaughan Sorry for the late response. It appears everybody I've ever known is visiting Hong Kong, so I haven't been online much. Thailand was good. We went in February. Parts of the country were still recovering from Covid, but the resorts were busy. In April, we went to Taiwan which is always fun. In a small town on the Eastern coast, we were at a street fair and there was a booth with a man originally from San Diego selling burritos (which were quite good). It's a small world.

Mark Garbett Hopefully, the writing hasn't killed any of the readers. {;-)

Ty Strange I've done some Facebook advertisements, which used to be successful, but not so lately. The downside to self-publishing is that you have to do your own marketing/promotion, which is difficult when there are a million other authors doing the same thing. I've also posted to LinkedIn and various Facebook groups.

Richard "RB" Botto See my response to Ty. Also, I find traditional publishing to be an extremely inefficient industry. If I'm lucky enough to get somebody's attention and a deal, it can take two years before the book is published. Mark my words, AI will disrupt the industry. The current business model is not sustainable.

Ingrid Moss What type of science fiction do you write? I like aliens.

Ty Strange I've tried Amazon ads, but didn't get any clicks (lots of impressions), plus the price is expensive. Perhaps, I should try again? Other people have told me they had good luck with Amazon.
No problem about the late response, Michael A. Clement. Glad you had an incredible time traveling. A street fair in Taiwan must be exciting.

Maurice Vaughan I knew it was going to be an interesting afternoon when I walked out of the train station, turned around, and saw a large giraffe standing on the roof. I live in such a strange world. {;-)
Wow, a giraffe, Michael A. Clement! On the roof!? Sounds like a scene outta a movie.
I have no idea, Ty Strange. No idea at all.
