Filmmaking / Directing : Directors - how do you prep for your shoots? by Amanda Toney

Directors - how do you prep for your shoots?

Would love to hear from our directors about the process you take when preparing for a shoot.

Rocko Paolo

I do table reads with the actors to fine tweak the script. I may either start working on my shot list or actual blocking with the actors before shot list.

Craig D Griffiths

This may be old school. But I draw a line down the side of the screenplay showing how long a shot will take. I then draw the shot. I have added an example I quickly put together.

You cannot see it in the pic. But there are numbers beside the drawings.

Maurice Vaughan

Great idea, Craig D Griffiths. Storyboarding in the script.

Craig D Griffiths

Very old school and physical proof I cannot draw.

Maurice Vaughan

You draw fine to me, Craig D Griffiths. And stick figures are great for storyboarding.
