Cool. I've studied playwriting in my spare time, and I found the process to be not too different than writing a screenplay. The formatting is a bit different, but the general principles of storytelling are constant across different mediums, I've discovered. I'm interested in writing a stage play at some point. I just don't know where to start.
Hello Maurice, here are 3 good plays that will give you insight. The Train Driver, by Athol Fugard, The Great White Hope, by Howard Sackler, And Last Nuts, by Tom Topor. That will get you started, good luck on your journey, by the way, Maurice what is your email address?
@John I read tons of plays at drama schools way back. Everything from Shakespeare & Ibsen to Willy Russel & later on Amy Herzog. Not much recently though.
Plays are the root. Movies are the tree. There cannot be one without the other. I would rather see a great production of The Glass Menagerie or ART or Glengarry Glenross than almost any movie.
Hi @John I write around the clock both for myself & other people. (My own Transmedia is Vintage Noir & Horror) Got some shorts out of development hell too coming up in 2024. Merry Christmas!
Hello Debbie, I have to get back to writing, I have a few things going on now, but as soon as I can see my way clear I will start. getting out of development hell is not easy, I know what you are speaking of.

Hello Steven, I see you sitting down, thinking about all the different types of stage plays you are
interested in writing, and then narrowing it down to 2 and then to one, and you are on your way. Good luck.

You're right, John Guinn - they are. I read quite a bit of Shakespeare in my twenties.

I've been meaning to read plays, John Guinn. I want to see how they're different than screenplays. I might even write a play one day.
