2023 has been a bit of a drag. My collapsed lung, daughter broken bones and surgery, and my dog being diagnosed with Addison’s disease. It has been hard to find my stride. So I satisfied myself by buying guitars. But I owe some writing which I have bumped off a few times. I am going to put on my big boys pants and be an adult and write.

This year, I finally started learning how to write screenplays and in the last month or so I have written...something. Getting free feedback has been interesting, particularly on Coverfly, when you don't know the reviewer's background and are given pretty superficial feedback.
Next year I'll write more - probably invest in some professional feedback and hopefully bring myself to finish whatever this is.

What do you do to get your creative juices flowing? I do different things, Mark Deuce. Watch movies, read scripts, research stuff, write random scenes, etc. My big dream/main screenwriting goal for 2024 is to sell 1 or 2 feature scripts. I also plan to read more scripts and books. I'll probably make up mini goals as I go. What's your big dream and goals for 2024?

Sounds positive Dan Guardino, wish you well with that endeavour. Not sure I want to be a turkey (especially around Thanksgiving), don't think I'm anywhere near eagle status, can you suggest a mid-range bird (other than penguin)?

What would be nice in 2024, but massively unlikely, is to stop adding ideas to a list that never seems to get any shorter. Probably would help if I became more disciplined about having a routine on a few weekday evenings (I tend to write at weekends). That said, I was up all night earlier this week polishing a script for one of the OWAs and submitted 17 minutes before the deadline. I take on board the other thread about OWAs, however, I find them useful to focus me on revisiting scripts to see if I can improve them, which is an end in itself.

In 2020, I wrote a screenplay under contract that was solid, but the scope of the project changed, leading the screenplay being shelved, but the story being used in another medium. Recently, the IP got a large sum of outside funding. So in 2024 I hope that script can be revisited for a potential film greenlight.

I find that I write best when I am in conflict. Weird, but true. The greater the conflicts in my life the better and more earnest the juices start to flow. And when I am in extreme focus, the ideas start to roll as well. Amazing Comments and HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!!! I started reading The Artist Way, which has been a wonderful journey to heal my inner artist. So for 2024, my goal is to write more, particularly short films, as I've fallen in love with the the constraints of time when writing, and perhaps take a shot at a feature.

Thanks, Mark Giacomin. 2023 was mostly pitch deck jobs and ghostwriting jobs. I have some great spec script ideas to focus on in 2024. Looking forward seeing what you get up to next year.
