Cinematography : Learning Different Cameras by Lindsey Jones

Learning Different Cameras

Does anyone in the Los Angeles area know if there's a place where you can learn how to use high end cinema cameras like ARRI? I know there's rental houses everywhere, but even renting for a day can be expensive. Especially if you don't know what you're doing. I've built all kinds of cameras, but I would love a crash course on what I consider to be my dream camera. A RED Komodo is more in my price range but one can dream of owning an ARRI Alexa. haha

Contact the houses and ask them about courses. If they don't have one in house they hopefully can recommend on. Contact Arri, Panavision, Sony and Canon and ask the same. Often there's open houses and you can meet the teams, and they can also offer amazing advice.

What about AFI? I am sure they offer camera classes.

Suzanne Bronson Thanks! That's cool that AFI offers tuition free courses. The Women's Intensive Cinematography program sounds interesting.

Lindbergh E Hollingsworth I will be attending the NAB Show in Vegas for work this year to film our booth. I'm hoping some of them will be there.

Last I knew Panavision is a good place to go to for things like that. Not just getting to build camera sets and test them out, but then you're at Panavision :-)

Lindsey Jones , you can also visit the Sigma Cine showroom in LA to test Sigma lenses. They also throw a number of events throughout the year at their LA location.
