Introduce Yourself : Wendy Gordon by Wendy Gordon

I've been a writer all my life--restaurant reviews, feature articles, op-eds, and most recently two novels (Wrong Highway, Shepherdess Books 2016 and It's Always 9/11, Shepherdess Books, 2021) but am relatively new to screenwriting. My first screenplay, Liability Insurance, was a "second rounder" at the Austin Film Festival and a quarterfinalist in the Vail Screenplay Competition. Austin is where I first heard of Stage 32. After polishing up Liability Insurance based on my competition entry feedback 2023, I am currently engaged in adapting my novel Wrong Highway for the screen. I've already gotten some extremely thoughtful and useful advice from folks on Stage 32! I also have an idea for a straightforward B movie that I'd like to get to this spring.

With the exception of the above B movie --and a certain taste for silly--I am primarily interested in watching , writing, and reading stories that aren't afraid to tackle deep philosophical issues and well developed complex characters within an accessible, plot-driven structure. I like speculative fiction and fiction rooted in everyday reality, or a mash-up of them both. I like ambiguous endings and a degree of darkness.

Otherwise I am a big fan of jam bands, cooking, gardening, knitting, embroidery, sewing--basically creativity and nurturing in all forms. I live with my family in Portland Oregon.
