Thanks for sharing the article, Amanda Toney. I understand why packaging is so important, but it's becoming too much of a burden on screenwriters. If screenwriters have to package their projects, we might as well be producers, which is fine for some screenwriters, but a lot of screenwriters don't want to produce.
Thank you Amanda. Yes, unfortunately the slow, steady progression of studios and production companies relying on producers and talent to do the heavy lifting of packaging has increased dramatically. Once they realized they could save money by not employing armies of development executives, but rather pushing these huge tasks onto producers, screenwriters, directors, and actors, they doubled-down on the practice. Add in the lawsuit that forbid agencies from packaging as producers and it's been an uphill lift for filmmakers to take on ever greater responsibility for putting together a project. Creatives and producers must take the reigns to accelerate progress in moving a production forward.

Maybe go back to the old ways- let agencies "package" their entire talent rosters in front & behind camera per new project.
