I was just wondering, how many of you have sold a screenplay. And if so, what was the process? (Did you use an agent, manager, both, sell it yourself, etc.?)
Hey, Thom Reese. I sold four short scripts to a producer on Stage 32. I networked with him for a little while, then we got into a conversation about scripts. I told him I had scripts posted on my profile and he went through them and picked four. We signed a contract, and he paid me for the scripts. That's why I suggest writers post their scripts (along with their loglines and synopses) on their profiles.
like the scripts you had , you just let people read them un copy written ? like what if you show me a script and then i just go wow i like this and take it ? theft is my question lol
Maurice Vaughan I think he means WGA and/or Library of Congress registered when he says "copywritten". he is making the assumption that you must do one of those before you can sell a script, or at least I think he is asking if you sold scripts having done neither of those 2 types of script protection.
Oh ok, Chase Cysco. I see what you mean. Thanks for explaining. Yeah, I register my scripts with the U.S. Copyright Office before showing them to people.
Yep, sold it myself by hustling & having the right script at right time for the right buyer. (Lawyer fees were picey!)
But the problem is at my level (non-wga companies, indi shops & shady producers, they will always find ways to screw you over payment & credits. Im still owed money from a french company, been 15+ years, but they're in France & my contact there died. Really need to show up ppl's work with a baseball bat demanding $).
Anyways just happy there was still meat on the bone to buy my parents' gifts
