This is one of the most comprehensive exposes I've seen publicized. Although the practice is nothing new; especially for parent Disney. It's a long read but worth it if you are aiming for a job.

Have these kinds of practices been happening for a while at Pixar (and Disney)?

J.R Meek More so at Disney Animation (because for a while Pixar was untouchable). But Disney Animation is notorious for things like this since they switched from 2D to the playdough factory of 3D. Many people have had the plug pulled on projects and have been laid off (or have seen their departments shut down altogether with little more than an "oh well"). The workload has always been what it is and the bonus being tied to current employment has always been what it is (since they started making bonuses part of contracts), but bonuses were not initially tied to thresholds, which from what this article states is untenable.
