Hi, Steve Ruwizhi. I’m a Stage 32 Lounge Moderator. I wanted to let you know that I moved your post from the Acting Lounge to the Financing/Crowdfunding Lounge since it's about funding a movie. Let me know if you have any questions.
Hello Steve! Where is the project at in development? Are you seeking initial development funds or funding for the production? There's a couple different ways to go about funding. First, if you need funds for making your project ready to be studio-financed (creating the budget, schedule, paying legal fees to establish your entity and agreements, IP copyright, investment packaging, etc) it's best to get creative with financial needs under 10K. For instance, a small personal loan, credit cards, loans or equity from friends/family, having equity-based agreements with collaborators, etc. After you get the project developed enough and all your ducks in a row, then it's time to change strategy and go for the big bucks. Not before it's ready. This is a mistake filmmakers make and it's easy to get discouraged when the fundraising seems to go nowhere. There is a blog coming out on Friday here on Stage 32 about the Roadmap to Financing, but in the meantime you can find it here:
I am still just trying to get funding and get advice,I have it all in my head but it's a good project for someone who knows how to make emotional dramas
Steve Ruwizhi So, what would be next is to begin to flesh out your team. Find a producer that loves your story and is willing to help propel it forward. Sometimes it takes a team of producers to accomplish all your needs in this early stage. You'll also need a director attached, find someone through networking or scan IMDb for projects similar to yours. I suggest through networking, especially on this site or your personal circle. Before you can begin on step one for acquiring financing, you'll need a pitch deck and before you can assemble a pitch deck you'll need a team. Also, mentally, it helps to be realistic about timelines. Developing a film takes years, just keep working towards the dream of having your script turn into a movie and a few years down the road you'll be there. Each one comes to fruition quicker and quicker after your first. Hope this helps!
As a guy that gets people distribution, the easiest way to get funding is to first get distribution. You can also use product placement to do your actual funding on low-budget projects.
