12 Camera Shots

I found this video by Alex Zarfati. My favorite camera shots to see in movies and shows are the Wide Shot, Full Shot, Medium Shot, and POV Shot. What are your favorite shots to use? And are there any shots you haven’t used that you want to use?

You're welcome, John January Noble. Do you have a favorite shot?

Tony Ray

My favorites are the Over-The-Shoulder and the Dutch shots. Best scene for the OTS is the restaurant scene from "Heat" and the restaurant scene from the first "Mission: Impossible" film.

I like the Over-The-Shoulder and Dutch Shots, Tony Ray. Have you used a POV Shot before? I see POV shots in movies, but not as much as other shots like Wide and Close-up.

Tony Ray

Maurice Vaughan Not yet, but I have a few scripts that utilize the POV to great effect.

Maurice Vaughan

Cool, Tony Ray. I use POV in some of my scripts, and I've written two First-person short scripts. I wrote the first-person action lines regularly, then I realized the characters couldn't see/do certain things in that POV, so I had to rewrite the lines.

Daniela Butini

I use OTS a lot and normally abuse of close-ups, mostly because of low budget and location limits ;-), but I'd love to master Dutch angle shots and I can foresee I'll make use of POV for my next short! can't wait to try it!

I like very much very wide shots where you see all the scenery; I like also these wide shots to have different elements of different sizes in foreground, background, middle ground and the rest of the "grounds".

I like also very much close-ups, also insert shots and macro shots; but I like many kinds of shots that are good; maybe each kind of shot can be used at the right moment, at the right time, in the right place...

Of course, I think, it depends also very much on the lighting and colors and composition and the rest of the things to make a shot good.
