Fascinating to read this interview with Almodóvar and Reijn, tow of our most important filmmakers who take on difficult subjects and create such provocative films. I just watched BABYGIRL and it was such a powerful film dealing with such a sensitive - almost taboo - subject. I haven't seen THE ROOM NEXT DOOR yet but will now. Have you seen either of these films? https://variety.com/2024/film/news/pedro-almodovar-halina-reijn-dod-1236...

This is my first time hearing about THE ROOM NEXT DOOR, Sam Sokolow. I'm interested in seeing the movie just from the title. BABYGIRL is on my watch list, I don't know much about it. I want to go into the movie knowing as little as possible.

Hi Sam, thanks for sharing this fascinating interview—it’s always inspiring to hear from filmmakers like Almodóvar and Reijn who push boundaries with such bold storytelling. I recently watched Babygirl as well, and it's raw, unflinching approach to a taboo subject really stayed with me. I’m looking forward to watching The Room Next Door to see how it complements these themes of desire and mortality.

I didn't see the movies, and am not very attracked to the themes they deal with. Nevertheless for Halina Reijn fans (watch it guys she's a feminist..) I did work with her as a production manager in 2001 on a shortfilm in which she acted a leading part. It was a total greenscreen studio shoot. It's 10 minutes, has subtitles and deals with 'virtual love''. https://youtu.be/Orv3yxImQEA?si=hePsGDv_bvuRBwyx

Thank you for sharing this link, Willem Elzenga - amazing that film was all shot in a studio on a green screen. Its poigiant and powerful - the film accomplishes a lot of what the film HER does in such a short amount of time. Very cool. Are you working on anything currently that you're excited about, Willem?

Sam Sokolow, thanks for aksing. I have several works in the making but am most enthousiastic about my work with John Clive Carter who is an American London based producer and writer, also here on S32. His war-themed screenplay Afterburner Turner is really working for me and is all about the developments in international warfare and the Royal Air Force. For my debut as a feature film director its excelllent, the film is a complete greenscreen studio shoot with lots of spectacular animations of planes in real-life combat situations.
My company FireStarter is also working with writer Alana Gerdes from Swittzerland, she's here on S32. She has a great screenplay named Cellophane Shells for which we're now working on financing in january with Jimmy Nsubuga also here on S32, but basically looking for a producer after talking to Buffalo 8, the guys of The Last Word by Kate Johnston.
