Happy weekend, Stage 32!
Between my work-for-hire, my spec scripts, and the stuff I've ghostwritten as a script doctor, I'm more than 70 screenplays into a screenwriting career and paying my bills on the back of that work. I've directed and produced on stage and screen, and I'm knee deep in some very exciting game development and my first novel besides. Many of you know me as a prolific Stage 32 blogger, as well.
Between the plagues, the fires, and the corporate oligarchy, I think we're all going to find that the future of Hollywood has more to do with us than it has to do with the technology or business models of this or that streaming company or studio. I think this year will be the year we start seeing new indie institutions setting new examples to follow, and I encourage each and every one of us to try and develop ourselves as leaders to that end. More than one Stage 32 member will be at the forefront of that wave, I'm sure.
If there's anyone out there who needs their idea developed as a screenplay, or who needs a script adapted from other media, don't hesitate to reach out! I'm very accustomed to keeping my budgets within reach for indie producers. If anyone has questions about building careers, writing for actors, or anything else, I'm here for that as well!
Good luck in 2025, Stage 32!

Tennyson Stead Hello and happy weekend! I second Maurice Vaughan motion. As an indie creative, I love seeing the new opportunities and attention to the creatives. With that attention I also believe taking the time daily to invest into leadership either through book reading, online studying or some sort of mentorship, while adding in some self reflection. It can be challenging to be 100% honest with yourself but having quality leadership traits as well as being a creative will help with elevating oneself. Wishing you and everyone reading this the best in 2025!

Cyrus Sales, I agree. Lots of people come to this town hoping to sell ideas, not realizing that every creative person has ideas. What people need, really, is help.
With that in mind, I submit that investing in leadership isn't just about being prepared for responsibility, it's about taking initiative on behalf of other people.

Thank you for taking the time to reintroduce yourself to the community, Tennyson Stead! If you ever want to write new blogs for Stage 32, let me know! We love your blogs. One about game development and the processes involved would be really neat!

Whaddup tho Tennyson Stead thank you for your encouragement. As I’m just starting out as an indie filmmaker, I already possess that me vs the world mentality and understand that the cavalry isn’t coming to save me. I couldn’t agree more in that the future of Hollywood we’ll have more to do with creatives who “hop the fence” vs waiting in line for the gate keepers.

You mentioned that you work in Game Development. Do you do the narrative aspects or other parts of the process?

Mary Helen Norris I've built entire game systems, but I think the narrative side is my most marketable side when it comes to looking for work with studios.
