I Feared AI for Years—And Now, It Feels Closer Than ever.

Currently, we are at a very narrow stage in AI development. Image creation is stunning, but it is not quite there yet. AI can be used to help with creative work, create ideas, and automate labor, but it cannot substitute human creativity—yet. The credit remains with humans.

And I have always dreaded this moment. I believed it would arrive later, but here we are. We remain at Level 1—Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI). It abides by rules, it computes, and produces based on input, but it does not truly "think."

The actual change will occur with Level 2—Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). That is when AI will not only serve but will comprehend, learn, and innovate like a human being. And we're not so far behind it. According to experts, it may take another 5 to 10 years, but I have no idea how long it will actually take.

But it will take years. And by then, the majority will be old, and others will still be young, seeing this transformation. And when it does, we would wish for it to happen on our own terms.

For those in their 30s or 40s who are creative professionals, this is your golden age—in absence of AI. I believe it would be much better if we could stick with the traditional approach and balance AI in our lives.

What is your take? Do you worry about AI? Just comment.

Michael David

No worries! I love AI and welcome its place in life in general and in the creative process in particular! What a great and exciting time to be living in!

Maurice Vaughan

Hey, Somay Gupta. I'm not worried about AI. I'm just going to keep getting better at writing scripts and keep writing scripts fast. AI won't be able to match the quality of my scripts, and AI scripts won't have the emotional impact my scripts have.

Anthony A Miller

They're up to Level 4 in Japan. So, whatever. LOL.

Colin Mummery

My prediction is that within 5 years there will be AI products which will take a feature screenplay PDF as input and within hours they will output a realistic live action feature film. The only cost will be data center fees and software charges. A lot of the AI pieces to do this already exist or are in advanced development. Ironically, I'm yet to encounter an AI generated screenplay that reads like a human wrote it but that might also get solved within a few years.

Göran Johansson

I have produced 22 hours of no-budget films. AI will presumably make it a little easier for people like me to produce ourselves what we write. When it comes to distribution, there will be more competion.
