Imola Orbán

Hello my future colleagues, crew members, actors, (the list goes on and on), and experienced professional filmmakers, writers, and producers!

Hi everyone,

First of all, sorry for my grammatical errors, I write with translate.

I'm Imola from Hungary, Europe. I'm still 14 years old, but my dream is to become a successful director-screenwriter before I reach adulthood!

I am not and have never been an actor. I have never tried amateur filmmaking. My English is still very poor (I will improve it, don't get me wrong).

I would like to get into the American filmmaking industry as a teenager (and as a foreigner who doesn't speak English very well at the moment) as soon as possible as a director, because I want to stand out from the teenagers who come in on TikTok, on Insta, from sponsors. I want to be an inspiration and role model to others my age as a filmdirector and writer, as stand behind films, their visuals, and plots, and actors, not an actor or singer being directed by others.

Also, I will use my future movies for activism:

For example, I will have a movie which plot message will critique AI art. It will take place on an interstellar generation spaceship, where AI will create lyrics, scores, dramas/screenplays, graphics, and music with the voices of famous singers who have passed away. It will be about the captain who, due to stress, his grief, and confinement on the ship, generates lyrics with AI and sings them. However, he realizes the AI can't express his feelings well at all, and repeatedly steals his voice and uses it later. After discovering records of former Earth artists - The Beatles, Queen, ABBA, Britney Spears, Madonna, Michael Jackson - during his depression, he realizes how much the AI is stealing from them. He sings them to his people and starts writing lyrics, and then meets several repressed artists on the ship That's another reason why I want to start my career early: I'll want take it to Sundance, Berlinale, etc, cinemas, and streaming, so that everyone, including the professionals, really take notice of why it's so important to prevent the future displacement of human art. It's a pressing issue, and I want to get it to people as soon as possible.

I already know some English phrases and techniques, which I hope will help me to guide my actors on set, despite the language barrier. As for the whole directing thing, I know some things about it, and I would like to read books on this subject. In fact, I'd like to try it out online in a video call before I go into the film industry, if only to see if I can direct actors with less English.

As far as screenwriting is concerned, I'm going to write the screenplay for all my films and I've already started reading a Syd Field book on the process, so I'm already educating myself.

I want to use natural techniques on my shoots, for example no CGI, I rarely want to shoot in a studio, instead I will shoot outside, even in the open air, and I will have the actors bring/buy the costumes instead of costume designers. The latter also has environmental reasons.

I'd like to make friends and connections with US professionals through this site. Especially with producers and directors to get to know the directing process and filmmaking business. Because I can't watch live/video classes.

There are also other reasons why I don't want to start with home-made videos/movies in my home country, I don't want to tell you about them. The bottom line is, my decision is one that no one can change, no one can talk me out of.

And in the meantime, I will practice English a lot!

And please, not just write for me a "Hi Imola Orban", but more!

I can't wait to talk with you!

Hi Imola, you have joined a great community, and you will learn a lot from everyone. I would recommend you listen to look at some of the free seminars in this community, follow some discussions, read some loglines and scripts, and then write your first script. I hope this helps.

Hey Imola! That's a great ambition, but remember, don't rush things and be patient, success in this industry doesn't happen overnight. So, just keep learning and improving, and one day, all your hard works will pay off. In the meantime feel free to ask for help from Stage 32 community!

Welcome. I am not Hungarian but my mom used to make lecsó, aka Hungarian bell pepper and tomato stew. I credit being 6ft tall to that and her pasta. Don't speak Hungarian though. Best with your writing.

Check out this award winning short film that is just 17 pages long Imola Orbán and read scripts, I highly recommend Save The Cat book, and maybe they have it in your language to study the craft. AND KEEP WRITING!!

Hi Imola, it's good that you've already got such clear ideas for your future. My suggestion, for now, is to read and study as much as you can about screenwriting and story crafting in general: it will help you a lot in writing your first script. And be patient: it takes a lot of time to master writing, don't let the first attempts discourage you if they're not as you expected. Good luck!
