I just needed to share this somewhere because it was such a huge relief and felt like such a huge win. I submitted my fourth draft of my Pilot, my show Priority One, for coverage and got a double consider after two previous coverages being a double pass. I worked so hard to take, and continue to work hard to take, the feedback I received very seriously and edit/revise the script accordingly. I’m so grateful to the people who have been reading and reviewing my pilot and giving that feedback. It’s been amazing to have actionable steps from someone on the other side looking at it. This just felt like a huge relief seeing that I was moving in the right direction and making tangible progress and improvement.

This is both awesome and inspiring, Hannah Augenstine! I hear all the time that this is a business where rejection is part of the fabric, and you've taken your double pass and turned it into double victory. I especially like your line about taking (and continuing to take) the feedback seriously, editing, and resubmitting. That kind of tenacity is what I strive for.

Patrick Koepke I’m a first time screenwriter and self taught in stage plays, short stories, and novels. I honestly leaned over the last decade, I’ve been writing, that there is always something I don’t know. So I take every bit of advice and feedback as it comes and take it seriously. If I want to do well I know I need to be open and collaborative or I’ll never improve as a writer. Going into screenwriting now, I take that even more seriously because it’s not just a new medium to learn but a new industry as well. I enjoy screenwriting greatly though and I honestly want to make this my career. So, I’m researching, taking feedback and advice and asking questions. I want to learn as much as possible to put myself in a position to hopefully make this a career one day then turn around and help the next writer up with what I’ve learned.

Hannah Augenstine our paths are similar. I am also a first time screenwriter (my first screenplay was completed a year ago), but I have 25 years writing novels, short stories, and freelance work. Like you, I'm here to learn all I can and improve my craft. Keep on keepin' on!

Hannah Augenstine a double-pass coverage seems rather harsh. What was the rationale behind it? It’s a crowded space no doubt, but when executed well, there’s usually enough material to sustain multiple seasons.

Hannah Augenstine, congratulations on the double consider. I did a doubletake when I read that. I hope that was the correct response.

Kenneth George trust me the double pass was warranted. It was a first and second draft and the script definitely needed work! Thankfully at the time, the readers, both of them, gave well constructed, specific, and detailed actionable feedback and advice. I revised and then revised and then revised again… then I got the double consider and revised again! All part of the process, I appreciate it when a reader articulates specific points of revision that I can then understand and evaluate. Then I either implement because I agreed wholeheartedly with it or use it as a way to look from a different point of view and maybe revise a separate piece because I noticed something or realized something as a result of that feedback.

Hannah Augenstine that’s great! The “Consider” note might still need a bit of work, but it’s excellent that you’re using feedback to improve the script. I write crime thriller TV series myself, and I have a script that received a “Strongly Recommended” coverage—yet each time I look at the script, I still find ways to refine some more. Keep going; continuous refinement is part of the process!
