Since I was little, I always enjoyed acting and creating sketches for acting. I also enjoy dancing and illustrating. I guess that’s why we are here to meet other artists, other creators, some more knowledgeable and experienced than others. My name is Erika, originally from Lima-Peru, and moved to VA, USA when I was 13 years old. I wanted to go to school for acting but my mom wanted me to be a doctor, so I graduated with a Bachelor’s in Biology from UMD, even though, I still took some acting classes as extracurricular credits. I didn’t go to Medical School. And now… I’m trying to connect with my creative side, that’s why I’m here.

Erika Kranz, welcome to the wonderful world of Stage 32. You can still make your family happy. You can play a doctor on television. Just a thought. Best wishes from an American from Virginia who visited Baltimore many times. Cheers from Germany.

Hello Erika Kranz I'm in a similar situation here!
I'm 18 right now but I managed to write a book this year and got it converted into a screenplay. Since then it's being reviewed by different producers and alongside I'm in my first-year of MBBS. Medicine and engineering are the two 'big paths' teens in India need to choose from after passing 12th grade. It's like an either-or situation.
So yeah I've been trying to balance my creative side as well as medicine, even though it gets too hectic sometimes.

Hey Erika, I’m also an actor & dancer. I also went to school to be in the medical field. I am currently studying for my board exam after graduating with an associates. it’s so overwhelming trying to do both. trying to follow my dreams!

I applaud your courage. Takes a lot to walk away from being a medical professional. I lived in Baltimore City for 20 years (78-98) when it really was a decent, vibrant place to be. Raised a family, etc. It's sad to see how far it's fallen.

Hey Erika it takes a lot to go against societal norms, I can 100% relate. I was born in Lima but raised in Australia. I'm a screenwriter but could not really identify as one until recently. Keep going, you've got this!
