The Introduction Revolution: How We Change The Industry By Connecting Each Other

Found this great substack article on how the industry works. Very insightful and clear on what the responsibility is for writers in making waves. I liked this tidbit especially:

"Representation Is Not Access—Representation Is Introductions. Writers obsess over getting representation. We’re taught that a manager or agent is the finish line. But what do reps actually do?

They introduce you. They send emails that say: “I represent this writer. You should meet.” Reps aren’t magical beings. They don’t create opportunities out of thin air. They connect you to opportunities that already exist.

The power of having representation isn’t that they’re better at pitching than you. The power is that their introduction carries more weight than you pitching yourself. Because the industry trusts them. Representation is a system of introductions. That’s the business model."

That's a great share Pat Alexander - thank you. And I can share the same is true in the acting profession. In fact, one could argue that the talent's responsibility to be actively engaging is greater ONCE you're repped - not least of all because now there's two reputations to uphold.

Vladimir Romantsev

This is useful information. Simple and clear.

I've had that feeling for a long time. This article lays it all out clearly and confirmed something I always knew but never fully realized

Thanks for sharing the article, Pat Alexander. I've been introduced to people over the years, and it helped my career. I've also introduced people to others. And I had a manager before, but I didn't just sit back and let him introduce me to people and submit projects for me. I also looked for opportunities and networked.

Thank you very much for sharing the article.

It’s exactly the kind of hopeful energy we need to hear all the time.

I’m so happy to be here in the Stage 32 community — a place that could one day help me realize my dreams through collaboration and the right introductions.

Pat Alexander Thanks for the article. I can’t imagine how famous a screenwriter or director has to be to work without an agent. I guess people at that level already have their own production companies :)

Pat Alexander This is an awesome and timely reminder, at the end of this year and at the gates, prepping and revving to race into 2026, that it is always, always a collaboration: writers with actors, writers with agents, agents and actors, it's a dance. We can't stop dancing just because we found a partner right? We should be sharper and ready to dance with them, not sit down and expect them to carry us through.
