Hi Stage 32 Community,
I wanted to share a project I'm currently working on that has reminded me why we tell stories in the first place.
My screenplay, "In Her Words," is a deeply personal story about a woman navigating an ALS diagnosis. It was recently recognized as a Semi-Finalist at Cannes (Table Read My Screenplay), and while the recognition was wonderful, I felt a strong pull to do something more with the script.
This May, we are taking the story to the community.
I’m partnering with the ALS Association Arkansas Chapter and Main Street Ozark to host a live table read festival in the town square. We’re bringing together local actors, food trucks, and community members to raise awareness and support for those living with ALS and their families.
I’ve always believed that scripts shouldn't just live in a drawer—they should be used to spark conversation and connection.
I’m curious if anyone else here has used their work to support a non-profit or a specific cause? I’d love to hear your experiences with organizing "storytelling for a mission" events.
Best,
Amy M. Ward
This is amazing, Amy Ward . Congrats on the reception for your script, but I am really impressed with your idea to get it out there like that. I am sure there are many who deal with an ALS Dx (both directly and indirectly) that would find solidarity and comfort in something like that. What a great idea!
ALS is a REALLY HARD disease to have. I am wishing you (or whoever it was that inspired the story) the best.
