A fresh new spin on a Bond film; don't roll out James Bond at every opportunity. That's Bourne film or a M:I film. Seems to me in order for a Bond film to be a Bond film you would need to roll out Bond quite often. You gotta roll out M. You gotta roll out Moneypenny. You gotta roll out Q. As much as I liked Casino Royal it did seem like a Bond film without Q and Moneypenny. But they did roll out Bond at every opportunity which I quite liked.
I agree with you Amit. I can't figure out why Martyn wishes they wouldn't roll out Bond at every opportunity. What is a Bond film without Bond being rolled out at every opportunity?
Look at it this way. We all need variety and change but we also need comfort of the familiar. Bond needed reinvention but taking away everything that was Bond, to strip him of all his colour, style, mojo...is going way beyond the brief of reinvention. Also, if I may say so, there's over emphasis on realism these days. Let's not forget, we go to movies to escape reality not face it all over again. SkyFall was mostly shot in UK, had no exotic locations, featured probably the least impressive Bond girls and to imagine the entire climax of a Bond film was shot in bloody barn!! I am hoping the billion odd dollars SkyFall has earned, some of it will go back into getting the flair back in the next Bond.
I enjoyed Skyfall, but not entirely happy that they are going retro-Bond.

My limited point is that Bond needs to be Bond. Don't make him just another action hero.

How did you feel about his marriage to Tracy? A bold move? Same fate.
