The tech edge has gotten to fast???

So I am still huffing and puffing to keep up....from old style ENG cams I use to use( 35lbs) to my EX1's ...to a new pair of 5D's. Then my buddy shows me footage from the blackmagic ...dang! Then I see footage from the RED Scarlet and a price of 16k which is not out of the equation, 45k for the RED was. So here is my quandary and question. whats next? Lets say i chose the Scarlet...how long till something new comes around the curve, how long will new gear be, new gear. I dig the advances but cringe on the cost factor trying to say up... D

Who says you have to keep up? There is already something coming around the corner that blows everything else out of the water. See my post here ( https://www.stage32.com/lounge/cinematography/RED-Dragon-Sensor ) And there's something around the corner that will blow that away (light field sensors). Your EX1 already produces a beautiful image. Why worry about the platter with plenty of good options on your plate? I say figure out what you want to do, then find the right tool for it. If producing a film in 4k is your application, then yes you need a scarlet, epic or something else. If web video is it; the EX1s and 5Ds are quite adequate. Trying to hold on to the cutting edge for its own sake is a losing proposition in my opinion.
