Putting Your Dreams First - Selfish or not?

I don’t know if anyone else has had to deal with this issue, but I am looking for input: How do I deal with an employer that is putting pressure on me to not only work 5 days a week but to also come in on weekends in addition to the weekdays? The thing is, I put in overtime every week that I am not being paid for. The only time I have to really concentrate on my business is the weekends. I REALLY do not want to give up any of that time, but unfortunately, I am not making enough doing makeup to support myself so I have to work a regular job. Maybe I have the wrong attitude, but I feel that my weekends are mine to do what I need to do and for me that means working to build my business. Am I being unreasonable? (Note: I was hired to work Monday through Friday, part time, but I have been doing more than 40 hours a week for over 6 months now without being made a full time employee)

  1. They need to make you a full time employee, and they need to pay you overtime. Check applicable federal laws. 2.Sounds like retail. 3. You need a source of income. Dreams are great. So is eating. What can you change to make this work? Like fitting in your dreams in other free time. Locking yourself onto weekends may not be the best idea.

Thanks for commenting Rachel. I make enough to support myself (rent, car note, car insurance, utilities) but not much more. Fortunately I don't need a lot to survive. As far as my dream - I sacrificed it for 40 years because I was in a religious cult. Now that I have finally escaped, I don't want to put my personal goals aside anymore. I am sure I will figure this out.
