We have an actor that plays 1 of 4 leads in our webseries. During Season 1 he told us he couldn't do weekends because he was holding out on them just in case someone called for a gig. It was annoying, but we worked with it. Now, for Season 2 he's beating around the bush with Weekends. We can do two episodes in one Saturday or have to be shooting LATE on a Tuesday night to do ONE episode. It's a pain in the butt for another lead who works early in the mornings and drives 45 minutes to come film. Not to mention we don't want to have 30 some days of filming. We'd rather have 10-15. But with the entire Season already written, what do you do? I guess it's possible to recast, but that again would delay filming that has already started. How would you approach it? Do you write the character out, recast, or deal with it for another season? We really only offer credit and meals, so I can appreciate wanting most Saturday's free for a paid gig, if you actually book one, but c'mon... It's difficult on everyone else from the other leads, to the recurring/bit actors, to us writing and directing to even the camera person... Any thoughts, opinions or suggestions 32ers?

Move on.... I had the same deal with my NotonCable Anchor. after a few no shows. Recast if you can. Imagine what a pain it would be if you get a following and have subscribers and your episodes go from every two weeks to every other month.. The challenges of art. Channel your energy elsewhere. Take the time until you get him recast, to rewrite, polish or write more episodes. I am a BIG believer in shooting as many episodes in one day, so I always have a reserve of episodes. Always leave your episodes at a point where you can 'kill off or write out someone. It is one thing to cancel on the night before, or two days before and all actors, crew are aware of that possibility, due to no money involved and needing income for a paying job. The only caveat is that if you are going to cancel it is for a paying job and not because your friend wants you to go to the festival of sorts.
