1,010 friends on Stage 32... Where are the projects?

Dear Directors and Producers on Stage 32: Lots and lots of incoming friend requests, but where are the projects? Let's make some great collaborations happen soon! -Milo

Richard "RB" Botto

Quite a few happening in LA, Milo. Check the FIND WORK section. Best of luck to you.

Oh I know, not exactly what I meant though. Most job offers I've gotten on Stage32 are little to no pay, which might work for other people who are getting started, but it would just be nice to get in touch with people making projects (that pay) who want to collaborate, and not just getting tons of friend requests from them and from actors =\ Networking is great when it has a purpose or a plan behind, not just adding 10000 friends and think that will make one successful.. It just feels to me like Stage32 has become a place that is almost entirely for people getting started, which is awesome, but I'd love to see more variety.

Milo, You know it is challenging to find projects that pay, and keep you busy. As you know, I read you connected with NBC/ Discovery CH. One or the other. I guess you need to really network over there the best you can. Where you may become the Maven for your 1000+ network. Maybe that is why they are networking with you? You know FWIW the Wilson Bro's borrowed a camera from school to shoot a movie, I think it was Old School, where you will now see a close knit of their circle being used in many of their movies. You gotta just take it in stride and work with projects you think will go somewhere if you have the ability to 'pick a winner'. I put up posts on my Network with no answer, or not even a question. So....just take it in stride. You may hook up with a Wilson or Cohen, but they may not be paying out front but on spec / back end. If they do not pay on either end, then you have to think is there exposure. IE: International, Cannes, etc... OR you may just have to take time like I do and learn yet another piece of software. I am learning Blender so I can make my own actors as I have not had good luck with that 'circle or sphere' to call on... Beggars banquet!

Thanks for your reply! I agree with what you're saying, and I've actually participated and continue to participate in many projects that I believe in, or in projects that have an inspiring positive message. But of course one must not forget that this is what I do for a living, not a hobbie. In order to keep doing it as my profession, I must get money from it to eat and pay my bills. Also, I have a family that depends on me, a wife and my 1 month old son, so when this is the situation as opposed to someone who's single, living by himself and getting into the business (me years ago), it's much more complicated to work on projects for little to no pay. I'm not sure if my post was perceived wrong though, my point is: I love what I do more than anything and am just looking for more projects to keep doing what I love =) preferrably paying jobs so I can, again, continue to do what I love, MUSIC =)

I know Milo, trust me. I am not a kid, I too am trying to support myself doing motion graphics. I was just trying to talk you 'off the ledge'. Kinda let you know you are not being ignored nor alone on the quest for a worthy network. Craig' list a joke of amateur adult casting couch, or as you stated freebies. Probably why many fold and join a Union for work. Your career path puts you in a unique 'niche. Not something that can be cross supported. Again hang in there. Might want to consider something on the side, until you can connect. I am sure your wife has brought that up before...But times are tough and we got some real poor management on the Hill for a few more years. Then a few more years after that for recovery. Luck!

I'm actually doing great though, work wise and in just in general! It's not lack of work I'm talking about here, it's lack of payed project offers on Stage32 =) that's all.. And my wife hasn't brought that up and probably ever will cause we're doing really well so far and cause she's an artist as well haha. Thanks man!

I have a project in the works to be shot in Springfield, Illinois. I've been attempting to expand my network to recruit people in Central Illinois, but not everyone will respond. This isn't a freebie. If I get the funding I am seeking everyone will be paid.

I get you Milo. I find that when you have a clear project they seem to take on a life of their own so searching creative talent seems to take care of itself. When you have a dream of a project you find too big to start or out of your comfort zone, perhaps that's the one to follow to make use of and search for new collaborators including here on this site. Thing is, if you have a sure path to tread, you need to be really inspired to move sideways into a new venture. I know what you are thinking and I think the same. As an actor I get it. As a producer I tend to follow the path laid out in front of me and, as yet, that's not sent me to Stage 32 but I feel that could change in a blink especially when it comes to casting or scripts initially. Personally, if I was to resurrect a dream project I feel is out of my depth I'd need costumes, a 20 strong dance group, choreographer willing to participate in a vision, someone who could clear the copywrite on music and the money and venue to show the final idea. This site would be my first port of call. In truth it's easier for me to just finish the film I've started, a project I know how to handle if you like. This is probably not what you wanted to hear or read but perhaps, this devils advocate summary and the angst of your initial comment that inspired my response might show we could be missing a trick and not using the full potential of this site if others agree. One first step is all it takes for change. You made it. Let's see where it leads. I wish you a very successful 2014 over the pond in the US.

Y'know what. Perhaps Stage 32 shouldn't be promoted to creative talent. It should be promoted to bored financiers and millionaires who want to dabble in the arts, gorge themselves on the lifestyle and be responsible for sponsoring new talent. We could do that, show them the ropes at Cannes, take them backstage, offer the premiere tickets . . . Nice little venture for a stockbroker, IT professional or other financial entrepreneur perhaps. Then things could really happen.

Good to have you around Cory. We can dream, have ideas and wonder if they'd work in practice and then, those that follow history and have first hand experience can set you straight. I will sleep tonight and your advice to Milo is spot on. Wish you luck Milo, get on that positive train and only get off to change to another when the terminal's in sight.
