Yep. One role in a movie and even an Oscar nomination does not mean acting jobs and wealth for life.
Certainly doesn't. Which is why you do what you do for love first and foremost.
It's a tough industry. I don't think writers fare a whole lot better.

I see the point ... and ... $65,000 isn't broke in my part of the world.
I wonder if the crew who filmed, edited, wrote, directed, etc are complaining about their pay. Just saying.
Think this is much more an article about public perception than it is about Abdi complaining.
I'll say to Barkhad Abdi, "Be grateful for what you got. Most Actors in our business don't usually get this kind of opportunity" "First time in the movie and getting nominated at the same time". That's good.
