Introduce Yourself : Composing and Scoring by Mike Myers

Composing and Scoring

Hi everyone! Wow, it's difficult talking about this without sounding "full of it". I resisted making this post but was eventually persuaded by another Stage 32 member. I am a British born songwriter. I've been composing for forty years. I guess I've been very fortunate over the years, having written and produced single and album releases that have achieved major chart success throughout the world. I've received numerous awards and (I'm told) sold over 40 million records worldwide. I've written 75 single and album hits. My song catalogue is still very active and I continue to have hits around the world. So, what now? Well, I've moved from my native London to the Algarve, Portugal, where I have my recording studio. It's one of the most wonderful places in Europe. My foray into film composing started in 2012 with "top lines" and title tracks. I'm currently scoring and composing title tracks for short and feature length films and animation shorts. The purpose of this post is to collaborate with Film and Television industry executives and to collaborate with upcoming composers. I'm happy to share my knowledge.

Your humility comes across perfect. It is not your fault you are good at what you do. And you want to help others. Look forward to talking about song writing. We are lucky to have you.

Mike - Happy you!! Here's why from my POV: I'm a weaver of words who believes a song-writer is the happiest of us all. Why? Because a song is a gift to the world. It can reach anyone's heart, anywhere, and be sung by them, and so, go on giving joy to everyone who hears it - forever. Are you smiling?

Mike Myers

Thanks for your kind and encouraging words Dillon. Hi Karen, yes I am smiling. I visit other countries often and it's amazing to hear a complete stranger on the other side of the world, whistIng or humming a song a I have written. I'm sometimes tempted to say "Hey, I wrote that", but I've always resisted to temptation. It's enough for me to know I've touched someone's heart - I don't need to massage my own ego.

Karen Sunde

hey Mike - that stranger in a foreign land humming your tune wasn't about your ego - that was a massage for your soul, telling you you've done good; enjoy the feeling.

Mike Myers

Hi Floyd, thanks for your encouraging words. Yes, I've been asked this question several times. I would be happy to pass my knowledge and experience on. Perhaps it's something I can think about for Stage 32 members in the way of a one on one course.
