Best Film Festivals for Documentaries

For those who have done the festival tour, what were the best ones for your feature-length documentary? Would like to know which ones are well attended, treats the filmmakers well, and overall a worthwhile festival to attend & why?

Jonathan Lacocque

We felt very well received at Cinequest. It was a large fest that was well attended, and they really take care of their filmmakers. I'd say it's high on the 2nd tier of festivals. It's not a Sundance for example, but a worthwhile fest for sure.

Matt Jackson

I was just at BendFilm and they seemed very Doc Friendly. I feel like their slate was very Doc heavy. Super great fest otherwise as well!

Chayah Masters

We are a new film festival! However, as part of our filmmaker perks we are providing social media expert support to every documentary & short doc invited to screen in our festival. Our social media expert will start working with our invited films upon acceptance to help build their audience online; we are truly interested in helping our filmmakers succeed and social media is a huge part of that. We are also in the process of signing an agreement with an online distribution company who will view all of our docs/short docs in consideration of releasing through their platform. We hope to become one of your fave fests too! RTIFF.org
