About Robert

A word from program sponsor, Robert Graham Jr.

My name is Robert Graham Jr, SCDC #: 178039. I’m currently incarcerated at Perry Correctional Institution near Greenville, South Carolina. I am currently serving life without the possibility of parole. However, with the emergence of the prison reform laws, I’m looking to be home soon. From behind steel bars, I have learned to envision and imagine things coming to pass for my life. Keeping with that mindset, I have pursued one of my lifelong goals of becoming an author. I have written over 14 books while incarcerated. The path to becoming a published author was not an easy one to say the least.

The "Deacon From Hell” story caught the attention of a New Orleans-based producer who became interested in turning my book into a short film to present at the Sundance Film Festival. Since then, I have written 6 installations into that series. I have republished the first installment with the 2nd and 3rd parts of the series through Transparency Library Company and now with my company Graham R Writing. We were able to work with actor Darrell Cook, from the movie “Forrest Gump”, who was set to also play the main character in an upcoming short film at the time. If that was not enough, I was also able to bring to fruition another dream of mine, which was to help other inmates become published authors as well through the publishing company GrahamR Writings, which I co-own.

Our goal as a company is to not only allow them the opportunity to be published but to also help them to establish some type of infrastructure that can be of use to them once released or help them take care of family left behind while they remain incarcerated. We even have an international author of two books on our roster in our attempt to expand our outreach. As you can see, I’m not one to be bound by my present condition and I’ve been here for over 20 years. I’m still pursuing greatness as best I can which leads to my purpose for reaching out to the public any chance I get.

My greatest desire at this moment is to inspire and share my success with others through any platform made available to me. What I want people to know about me as an author is that I believe writing is a gift, not just something to pass time or make money. What makes me unique is that my books bring something different to the publishing world in terms of not having predictable storylines and plots because I was not traditionally trained in the field of writing. Being an incarcerated author means the opportunity to break barriers and discover your talents. Thanks to all the supporters of incarcerated authors like me!

-Sincerely,

Robert Graham Jr
