About Alexia

I am a Senior Lecturer at RISD (Rhode Island School of Design), where I teach in the Literary Arts Dept. I teach literary arts courses as well as Queer Cinema. I have recently "retired" my film company, Shifting Visions . I was the Executive Director and produced over seven documentaries over the last ten years or so. The last film, TransJourney, won the Audience Award from the Palm Springs LGBTQ Film Festival (2015). TransJourney was also broadcast on R.I. PBS. I shifted my interest to screenwriting and with my co-writer, Marianne Messina, ( also a nature writer), we wrote our first film script, “Small Steps in Black Birkenstocks;” it was awarded the James Severs LGBTQ Film Script Award at RIIFF (2017) and was also read at Toronto’s The Female Eye Film Festival’s ( June 2018) film script workshop. I am working on a new script (solo) entitled "Leaving L' viv," while I am in Europe this summer (June-July 2024). Logline: An impassioned Polish immigrant and her American girlfriend join forces to cross the Polish border to bring a young Ukrainian girl back to Poland to discover that their survival skills will be tested is a surprisingly odd manner.
