About Miles

I have been a playwright for a long time but after retiring from my full time job I have mostly been focusing on writing for television and film. I have multiple finished scripts and many more in development.

After I got a Masters in Directing I moved to California. One of my housemates had acted in a play I directed. We both wanted to be a writers. He focused on only that and got Save The Last Dance and Step Up produced. I took a teaching job but now realize I wish I had stayed on my original path.
I have always written stage plays and have over 25 completed scripts. Some have been produced but I never tried to get any published. After retiring I moved back to the East Coast where I had a full length play given a reading in Philadelphia by the Dramatist Guild. However, it has always been a goal to write for film and television. I took a screenwriting class in California. We only had to write a short, but I wrote a full length screenplay. The instructor liked it so much that he wanted to direct it if he could get a producer.

I am always full of ideas and now that I am not teaching, directing, and acting I am focusing on screenwriting in my later years. I have completed two horror screenplays and have two more actively in development.

PEG BOYS Coming of Age
In the late 1800’s a teen boys father kicks him out after finding out that his son is a “nancy boy”. The boy sets off for the West Coast hoping to be reunited with his lover who was run out of town. His journey across the country is both perilous and liberating. Unfortunately, he is given a ride by a man in Nevada who drugs him and sells him to a Peg House which was a boy brothel in the Barbary Coast where the gold miners come into town to drink a carouse. These actually existed and the name comes from an unbelievable practice by the pimp.

In Development.
CAMP DEAD END Horror/Thriller
Have a problem teen? Send them to Camp Deadwyler and you won’t ever have to worry about them again. The three misfit protagonists find themselves all asking why their parents would send them to a camp. They realize that something is up. Upon arrival the teens are assigned to one of three cabins. One is for immediate extermination. One of for torture or murder by sadistic customer. The last is for sex trafficking. The three teens lead a revolt to save the other kids while battling the savage staff.

DANCE OF THE KILLER CLOWNS -Horror
Based on a produced horror one act play a college girl discovers her boyfriend has been cheating on her with three other girls. They meet and plot revenge. Since he is afraid of clowns his girlfriend lures him to an abandoned cabin her parents up. The other girls are waiting, and the biggest surprise is that they have hired a clown to terrorize him. The play goes south, and the clown and the boyfriend are working together. Then the real demon killer clown shows up to kill and eat his six victims. And he only talks in rhymes.

In Development.
ALL AROUND AND UPSIDE DOWN. Teen Relationships.
Based on a full length play the format follows Arthur Schnitzler's 1897 play La Ronde. The romantic lives of a group of teenagers at a suburban high school are explored. Each of the ten episodes focuses on the interaction of two characters who are in love, out of love, out for kicks or somewhere in between. One of the characters carries on to the next episode with a new character who goes to the next episode with a new character. In the final episode the 2nd character meets up with the other from the first episode. The tone changes with the characters and situations from romance to friction to comedy and so on. Each episode is based on one scene from the play.

LITTLE THEATRE Comedy Drama
Based on my experience after graduating with a degree in theatre. A young man is cast at a little theatre and eventually gets to direct a throwaway play that becomes the most successful play of their season. The life span of a play from auditions to rehearsals through performance is under the critical eyes of the persnickety men and granddames who have been running the theatre for 50 years.
