When looking through the life of Michael Cambden Richards, one is allowed a first-hand view into a diverse and unique acting career. Raised by a British/Orthodox Jewish mother and a Sicilian father on the lower east side of NYC(Rivington& Attorney streets to be exact), Michael's life was anything but normal. From chucking watermelons off a horse-drawn carriage at an early age for a nickel to being drawn into his Uncle's extremely prominent cruise ship photography business, MCR quickly matured from a kid into a proficient young photographer who sailed around the world many times before even turning 23.
After befriending the Oscar-winning actress Olivia D'Havilland(Gone with the Wind) on one of his travels, she persuaded the great Sanford Meisner of The Neighborhood Playhouse, an acting teacher who taught the likes of Diane Keaton, Robert Duvall, and many more, to include MCR in his two-year course. That began MCR's new life as an actor. After securing his first agent in Los Angeles in the early seventies with the Beverly Hecht Agency, MCR landed his first contract with Spelling Productions where he played 3 different roles for over 18 months. ( Six-Million Dollar Man w/Lee Majors, Bionic Woman w/Lindsey Wagner, Vegas w/Bobby Urich). This was a dream come true for MCR, but not so fast.......
As the 70s came to an end, MCR's career was put into limbo as all three of the shows were put on hiatus. MCR was able to find some work in soap acting but not enough to keep him in LA. Back in New York City, Michael found himself a new agent and landed a role in "Guiding Light" with Taye Diggs, "Matlock" with Andy Griffith, as well as a few national commercials.
In the early 90s, MCR was offered to take over a floundering non-profit off Bway theatre company, where he presided for over a dozen years as the artistic director. He renamed the company NASCO(New American Stage Company) and was located at St.Peters Theatre on east 54th street, where he brought "true theatre" back to the city he loved. Right after the 9/11 tragedy, NASCO was unfortunately defunct and Michael decided to step out of the spotlight and into the family life.
Now he is back and seeking representation to pursue his one love: Acting!
