“Ray Raghavan doesn’t just make films—he crafts visceral journeys that stay with you long after the credits roll.”
Recently awarded development funding from Telefilm Canada for his sophomore feature, PHOREN, Ray Raghavan is a filmmaker dedicated to creating cinematic experiences that challenge and captivate. His work channels his own immigrant journey, tapping into themes of identity, alienation, and transformation through the lens of horror and psychological thrillers. With PHOREN, he’s crafting a horror story rooted in the immigrant experience—a narrative that promises to disturb and resonate in equal measure.
Ray’s latest short, ALIENATION, is making a bold impression on the festival circuit, with screenings at prestigious, academy-qualifying festivals like CineQuest, FilmQuest, Morbido, and Trieste Sci-Fi. His debut feature, VIOLENTIA, established his talent for intense, thought-provoking narratives, earning him the Best Director award at the Berlin Sci-Fi Festival and worldwide distribution through Gravitas Ventures. His first short, MAYA GETTING BORN, won Best Student Film at the Vancouver South Asian Film Festival, setting the stage for a career driven by storytelling that entertains, challenges, and transforms.
Recently selected for the DGC LA delegation for Screen BC Week, Ray is eager to expand his reach and bring his unique cinematic vision to broader audiences. A participant in the BITS Genre Lab 2022 and a recent graduate of the DGC Episodic Directing Workshop, he is pushing the boundaries of genre filmmaking with original, diverse content. When he’s not behind the camera, Ray can be found on long hikes with his two young sons, embracing the landscapes that inspire his haunting and heartfelt tales.
