Petra Hjortsberg

Petra is a Theatre & Performance Designer who works internationally in a wide variety of styles and genres; in theatre as well as Opera, Dance, Film & Video. Originally from Sweden, Petra’s work in theatre and performance design started in Dublin, Ireland, with costume design for PurpleHeart Theatre Company’s Coyote on a fence.

Petra went on to train at Wimbledon College of Art, UAL London. While training she was fortunate to continue her freelance work, having the pleasure to work both in Dublin and London. Currently London based, she continues to work across both of her adopted home cities.

Most recent theatre design credits include the Best Production and Best Off-Site nominated Body Electric (Absolut Fringe, Dublin), In Extremis (The Kings Head Theatre, London), DISCOnnected (Absolut Fringe, Dublin) and TREASURE THIS? (Bush Theatre, London, as part of Bush Bazaar) as well as Design Assistant credits on Dances of Death (The Gate Theatre, London). As the newly appointed Associate Artist with young UK company By Jove Theatre Petra is currently in the middle of leading the company’s visual rebranding across all platforms. Petra have also been invited to form part of World Stage Design 2013, where she will be joining international designers in a ten day celebration of theatre & performance design at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in Cardiff.
