Had a terrific chat with RB today on his monthly Webinar. Hope some of you guys can make my exclusive webinar on March 10th!!! Is There A Market For Your Short Film? (Distribution, Recognition & Monetization)
My first feature at Sundance was the first play I ever wrote, Robert. My most successful short also started out as a play. I'm a big proponent of adapting plays because they are already designed to be low budget by their format.
David, Thank you for your response. I did see "Love, Ludlow" at Sundance years ago and enjoyed it. Bob rlsentlaw@aol.com
Thanks Robert. It was my start to hopefully a very long career. (I started a little late)
"Writing a screenplay must look easy, since everybody in America seems to have one in the works. It's not easy at all; it's comparable to constructing a cuckoo clock blindfolded; it's like composing an elephantine, one-hundred-twenty-page haiku." -- Richard Rhodes - Comments welcome, fellow writers
No offense meant, Dan.
@Victor Greywolf We get prepared by writing scripts and refining what we're doing, expanding our knowledge and networking, etc. ... in other words, what we're doing here. :=>
120page Haiku ... love it!

Apparently David just sent the writer's script (that they found in his DRAWER) and Kinglsey and Banderas read it and signed on. WOW! #oneday am I right?
I see him in the office regularly and I'm still not entirely convinced those are his shoes.
Who wears shoes to work????
How many times have you been caught with your pants down when someone asked you for a "brutally honest feedback" on their screenplay and you gave it?
Annie, your resume is spectacular. You're a wonder!
Joyce. Thanks for clarifying. It sounds likely that he and the congregation will benefit.
Joyce, thank you. Coming from you, I accept the compliment with humility. You young protégé pastor is very fortunate to have you. Happy Valentine weekend to all who love what they do!!
Anyone else feeling the crunch of the Canadian dollar when it comes to getting your pitch out there? I am willing to spend some cash on pitches or services but when everything costs more that 30% more it makes you think twice. Maybe someone knows of a Canadian service that has good results?
Same goes for the $AUD Aus Dollar has fallen from $1.12 to $US to around $0.70 - makes you think about each pitch
Would just like to introduce myself, My name is Tracey Roberts and I am a screenwriter. I hope to meet a lot of great people and learn a lot.

Expand postLately there have been a lot of people trying to put me down (noone on Stage32) about how I'm never gonna sell my screenplay. They just don't realize the work I've put into it though. I've even taken classes that NO QUESTION improved the screenplay tenfold, both here on Stage32 and I did one called the ProSeries (Once I have the money I'm thinking of doing the Masterclass next - For ProSeries "graduates", people who complete at least 80% of the assignments). ProSeries was actual writing lessons I was able to apply to my script and I don't regret taking the course at all since Version 7 that I came out with is a million times better than Version 3 - especially in the plot and characters. Once I had great characters the plot just...fell into place. Now as I said recently there have been a lot of people telling me it's silly to think I can sell but with all the time and work I've done there's no way I believe that. Everyone who HAS read my script at LEAST admits it's a great idea that I have. I'm just never gonna forget this fun fact - George Lucas was initially told Star Wars was a dumb idea and the script was rejected by Universal Studios and United Artists and even 20th Century fox at the start (though yes, they eventually embraced it). There are countless examples of this (see http://www.denofgeek.us/movies/22058/the-hit-films-hollywood-studios-did...) E.T. was another. So in short I won't stop until I actually sell "Mascot". I've made countless changes to plot and characters, and only the initial idea has remained intact. What's more every new version I know the movies going to be better now. Anyway I still work a standard 40-hour job and live in Portsmouth, RI not far from Boston or Providence (1 hour) or even New York (it's about 5 hours). At this point as I continue to write in my free time, I just really am trying the sell or market the screenplay now. I used to pitch on Stage32 pitchfests but money's gotten tighter. Still with my latest version complete, and I haven't pitched since early Version 5, I plan to get back to it soon! Like the title says - I've had dreams before but for some reason I started chasing this one over a year ago - And I haven't stopped because I feel like this is one I can make happen and what's more even if it doesn't (which I believe it will) I'm actually having fun doing it! As for the fact my profile says I'm a musician, I play in the Rhode Island Wind Ensemble. We're on Soundcloud and pretty well known in RI and nearby Massachusetts

Expand commentYou can't give up, because you're a writer. So, you'll write till the day you die, and you will always believe in your story, because the creative source of your inspiration is divine. That said, you must write MORE. The more specs you write, the better you will be, and the better perspective you'll gain on things you wrote earlier. Start on a new project. Build your library. ps. my whole family if full of nay-sayers, and it hurts, but at some point the fact of what I am just takes over, and that's all that's left....the stories in my head, and the willpower to write them out, then send them out to the world.... So, you're not alone, Brian. People love to hate on creatives, because they're jealous, and they don't understand where this non-rational compulsion to CREATE comes from. We all know how you feel. Thanks for saying it out loud.

Expand commentThanks all. And I am planning to start a second spec soon. I actually have another idea I originally wanted to make into a novel, but I wanted the novel to be a movie after that. I always saw the movie though in my heda, not the book. Maybe it's time to convert that into a screenplay and finish it! I already know the plot now I think I'll do that as my 2nd script. Meantime, I'm ALWAYS open to changes on the script I already have - Trust me the only thing that doesn't change in "Mascot" version to version is it's main idea. Even the plot has been tossed around through rewrites and change (to improve, of course)

My bio can be found at http://www.littluns.net/pages/about.html?osCsid=781f1bb5d1b5f7544379b463... A little about “Littluns.” For filmmakers, "Littluns: And the Book of Darkness” is a book - that is in some interesting ways like a movie - that's really a 411 page, color illustrated fantasy novel for readers who are looking to discover a very different reading experience - the best of both worlds in family entertainment. My work is guided to inspire and enlighten readers and filmmakers beyond what is to what can be and the infinite possibilities beyond. Imagine a novel that is a different kind of movie.
Very impressive Mark!
Awesome work Mark!

Anyway, my goal is to find a manager or someone that will take a chance and guide me through the maze known as Hollywood. If not, it's still fun writing and coming up with twisted ideas. So, what's going on in your life?

Expand postHi stage32 fellow filmmakers. I am a VFX compositor who has worked in some of the biggest companies, like ILM or Weta (I'm working here now, from lovely Wellington). But my interest is in telling stories, and making them possible. VFX is a thrilling job but I guess many of you have noticed that the stories behind some (not all) of the latest greatest box office hits can be summarized in one word: "whatever". I'm here to tell a different kind of stories, tales that get deep and, why not, use VFX, but only when needed. I love the concept of the "untold story", like what happens to Spiderman's... neighbour. Right now I'm writing two feature films. One is science fiction with not very expensive VFX - most of it matte paintings. The other is a comedy-drama-family-musical with rap. I'm also writing the pilot for two series: one of them fantasy in the real world, the other a comedy sitcom for kids. I've also written, produced, directed and edited a few short films (in some I even act... oops). It takes a lot of energy to make projects alive, but it's so much fun too. Looking forward to connect with amazing people here. Jesus.
Hi Jesus, just wanted to say thanks again. I've passed on all of your morphing feedback to another VFX enthusiast who is going to take another crack at it for a film festival entry. Will see what he comes up with. :)

I know 10’s of thousands of people, I have maybe over 150,000 people in my combined networks and if each of them did 58 small good deeds that’s 8,700,000 teeny tiny good deeds or smiles or some other form of giving we could create today for each year of my goofy wonderful life. I’ve always trusted the timing and events of my life! Funny thing about life, we cannot change it's timing but we can sure guide it's journey! Today is my 58th Birthday and I could have never imagined my life at this moment no matter how creative I am, in fact, I have been going through the worst time ever in my life with the death of Gretchen Sackett on July 16th. After 38 years together and after building all of our companies and ideas together, life feels a little less wonderful of late. So very early this morning I got this idea. Today and the rest of this week, I ask that you make an effort to go out and practice #GIVE4 in a big, BIG way. Commit to touch the lives of 58 people today by sending an encouraging email or making a call, paying it forward, referring someone, lending a hand, an idea or your talent, or simply by smiling! Then come share it with us next week in San Francisco at The Box SF at our Monday 9/14 event! Tickets here: https://theartofactivenetworkingsf.eventbrite.com Tuesday night 9/15 come share it with us in Los Angeles at IgnitedSpaces! Tickets here: https://theartofactivenetworkingla.eventbrite.com Make your week awesome and start your 58 little good deeds now! If you would like to help me remember Gretchen you can consider a small donation here to her favorite animal charity Love Every Animal!
