Rich McKeown is president and owner of KoolKidz Television & Publishing LLC. Founded in 2005 KoolKidz that has garnered over 90 Film Festival selections and awards throughout the U.S.A., Canada, Europe, Africa, South America and Asia and broadcasted on the Education Channel as well as EATV’s, Kids Time programs! KoolKidz brings fresh, intelligent programming to today’s sophisticated children. Our mission is to instill pride & knowledge of self, particularly for children of color, with high quality programs, consisting of original music & artwork that both entertains and educates. With exciting characters, terrific stories and amazing music, we teach important lessons for life.
An accomplished musician and producer, has been the sole composer & producer all of the KoolKidz film soundtracks as well as providing the additional voices to the principal narrators. Rich has built a multi award winning company as well producing award winning children’s films, within two years of its inception. The Koolkidz titles are available online as well as in libraries throughout the US and Canada.
Richard composes sound tracks for other filmmakers as well. He scored two very important documentaries directed by Manauvaskar Kublall, Primetime: Fighting Back Against Foreclosure which screened at Documentary Fortnight, Museum of Modern Art as well as the Queens Museum in New York, 2009. In 2011, Rich became a full partner of FulleeLoaded Productions as well as a writer, producer and head of Business Affairs and Marketing bringing his 15 years of experience working for publishing and entertainment giants Prentice Hall/Simon & Schuster, Bourne Company Music Publishers, Boosey & Hawkes, Inc., Bertelsmann Music Group & HBO, combined with an additional 12 years in sales.
Rich has recently produced the award winning music documentary, American Beatboxer, shot in Brooklyn NY, chronicling Hip Hop history in filming this nation’s first American Beatboxing Championship. On the night of it's World Premier Screening on May 15th, American Beatboxer
was archived at the New York Public Library-Schomburg Center's - H2O (Hip-Hop Odyssey) Collection, followed by garnering The Audience Choice Award at The People’s Film Festival two weeks later. American Beatboxer is currently in the film festival circuit.
In 2014 KoolKidz TV & Pub begins preproduction for a new children’s animated short, and a documentary about Black Women in Journalism, both written and produced by Emmy Award Winning Journalist Vanessa Tyler. The short film is illustrated and painted by the renowned children’s illustrator, poster artist and sculptor, Sterling Brown.
