Siren Star hails from Rochester, New York, the imaging center of the world and home of George Eastman. She currently resides in Oakland, California.
The daughter of average suburbanites, she found escape from the dry monotony of the world through writing, music, art, and theatre. Siren completed her Associate in Art from Finger Lakes Community College in August 2001 for Liberal Arts and Sciences, with an emphasis in Music Business. She received her Bachelor of Science from SUNY College at Brockport in August 2005 for Art, with an emphasis in Photography. She also received minors in Creative Writing and Theatre Costume Design.
Her interest in film was sparked by her passion for photography, writing, costume design, theatre, and music, which is all encompassed in the world of film. She lost herself in the classic films of Kubrick, Lang, Wiene, and Wells, and the more contemporary films of Tony Scott, Tim Burton, and Danny Boyle. She spent many long days between classes designing costumes for the latest theatre production, using her overnights to work on her photography and film editing.
Forced to take a slave job at a local café, to pay off her student loans after graduation, Siren focused her efforts on screenwriting. She wrote her first full length screenplay partly on napkins during slow periods at the sandwich counter. That same year she decided to apply to a few graduate programs in film and was accepted into the M.F.A. in Screenwriting program at the American Film Institute Conservatory (AFI Conservatory) and the M.F.A in Filmmaking program at the New York Film Academy (NYFA) at Universal Studios Hollywood. Unfortunately, the price tags turned out to be a bit too hefty, so she decided not to attend. Instead, in 2006, Siren had poetry published nationally in Susan B. & Me, an anthology dedicated to Susan B. Anthony. She volunteered at the Community Darkroom, teaching photography to high risk inner city youth, and she volunteered as a costume designer at the Allendale Columbia School, designing costumes for their high school productions.
Siren is now studying for a MFA in Motion Pictures and Television with a concentration in Screenwriting from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. She is an avid blogger; keeping art blogs on the most popular blogging sites. She is also in the process of putting together an art/literary magazine and a poetry anthology.
Photography, film, writing, costume design, and music are very much a part of her life to this day, as she continues to challenge herself in all things visual. Siren loves to create and capture significant moments with both her still and moving cameras, and tell a story based on her images, her writing, her inspiration, and her design.
I am currently working on a rewrite of a feature length script, writing a short, and writing another short with a fellow student/friend that she will be filming next semester.
