I'd also agree that it can be done, but I'd probably posit that the more connected they are, story wise, the wider your audience appeal will be. Otherwise it will just feel like unrelated episodes smushed together. Some have relied on thematic cohesion over story with limited success. Study a few that have worked AND not worked and see what works best for you, I reckon. Best of luck!

Write the vignettes first, then write a wraparound story to tie them together.

Dan, you are still a joker and we are in 2018! Bless your squirrel's heart...

Film is a very powerful medium. Film as an artform has also been used for propaganda purposes a lot the past hundred years. I love movies first of all. And luckily I stumbled upon screenwriting when I was 15 and fell in love with it. Writing saved me in so many ways too but that is another very long story on its own. I hope to some day be able to make movies that really can portray our human condition, society, everything that we are, might be or hope to become. Today, the film industry is all about fantasy supernatural things, superhuman powers and heroes in tights from comic books or novels. But the time will come when film will make a full circle and real and original stories will be in demand again. I write and would love to make films that can touch someone, make you wonder and above all question all kind of things and our reality in order for us all to better ourselves on an individual and collective level so that we may learn together without shoving any false messages down somebody´s throat. I write and want to make films that don´t divide humanity but bring it together. I write and want to make films where a female character doesn´t have to have a wet t-shirt every five minutes or has to bend over every three minutes but where a female character is real and multifacetted just as women are in real life. I write and want to make films where male characters are not some superstrong dudes that never make mistakes or can´t be vulnarable but are real and down to Earth and exploring what it truly means to be a man. So...yeah... I have a lot to say and I have no voice in our society. But I can write. And maybe some day someone will hear what I have to say about great many things. That is why I write.

I have visions of great stories that I want the world to see. And, I can remember as a child reading so many stories and visioning them as I read them, they took me places I had never been. Even to this day, I confuse things I've read in a book with a true memory. So, it was like I was really there. I want to take others to new places...especially juveniles....this world can be a crazy place.

S.J. As I develop and write heroine characters, I delve into their needs and desires and morals. Your philosophical need/desire seems to be to clean up the filmmaking industry and you are certain of your moral right to do so. I wholeheartedly agree. Show business has never made its money by accident. Sometimes it leads its audience and sometimes the audience leads it. But show business is always paying attention... it just takes a little while longer for it to look away from the mirror to see what's happening around it occasionally.

Yes. Most definitely. I always set writing goals. Keeps me focused. Otherwise "when I get the time" takes over and months later I've accomplished nothing.

Like Jacob, I get overwhelmed by tackling an entire project. I break it down into quarterly, weekly, & daily chunks of work.

If I find myself avoiding a certain step, I break it down further until I've overcome my own resistance. Taking bites I can manage helps me succeed every day.

Taking a small step forward propels me further into the project and I usually keep on going after that first step. It's helpful to lay out my steps, in a general way, ahead of time so that when I finish one item I can continue to the next step without having to stop and figure out what it is.

I prefer to concentrate on accomplishments over goals. Yes, I set goals and have them in place for 2018. I just find accomplishments drive me this time of year. I did set new goals at Thanksgiving. Met all but one and the one I missed was out of my hands. Writing wise I had a great year. Wrote 3 features that have a future! Placed in an International screenplay contest. To each their own. I have thought of some paid internships but I'll try entertainment career although for Indeed I did not have some no good experience since I was always getting emails from State Farm, but I will try it again. Thanks for the advice.

True Dan. But I'm writing novels and well also tabloid stuff, so a script is totally different. I needed to know what's out there. I want to start small before I'm moving on. So I did buy Fade In. At the moment I'm making the Coral World ehrm... world bigger.

Right. Unless you break in, software is expensive. I also looked at ZBrush. While I can pay 800 bucks, I rather be paying my rent at the monent :) Fade In is only 80 bucks and it has more features then the free edition of Celtx. Celtx I will however use for my course. The teacher wants that :)

Thanks Francisco. As Beth points out, script notes are far more helpful. Dan also reminded us that what was once a practice for screeners to give their bosses a quick summary, has become a cottage industry which makes money, but seldom meets a writer's expectations. These readers are either overwhelmed with scripts or have gotten lazy in their treatments, either way, a market requiring $100's for this service will eventually adjust with the added competition of free-loaders looking to make easy money or the disillusionment among their customers.

I've adapted four, each one in the series takes place in a different part of the world between 1820-1850 with the same protagonists, a husband and wife, aristocrats with crime solving ability. Since producers haven't beaten a path to my door, I would be interested in having a more experienced co-adaptor and since the scripts are already in Final Draft format, it shouldn't take too much work. Here are two loglines for Quebec and Egypt, take your pick (I also have Brazil and Tanganyika).
