About Paco

Francisco (Paco) Rafael Vázquez - Ratcliffe, was born on October 20, 1967, in
San Juan, Puerto Rico. His mother, Lillibeth Ratcliffe is a college teacher and his father, Francisco Vázquez, is a retired lawyer.

During the last 27 years, Paco has worked with different publishers and advertising agencies as a freelance photographer. His most distinguished customers have been: Target Group publications, The Cardiovascular Center of Puerto Rico, El Nuevo Día newspaper, Puerto Rican Cement, The American Heart Association, Telemundo NBC and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

In 1989 he started working with Target Group, a very important publication company in the island. They have three main publications back in the day: “El Ferretero”, a newspaper dedicated to the hardware industry, Automundo, a newspaper dedicated to the automobile industry and Galeria, a magazine dedicated to arts in general. After only one year working for the company, he was promoted to Director of Photography. The first six years of his career provided him with enough experience and customers to start a business. Therefore, on February 15, 1995, he opened an own studio.

In the year 1998, he took the pictures for the Puerto Rican Cement Annual Report. A helicopter was rented to take aerial photographs of the industrial facilities. The following year, the Better Business Bureau recognized that annual report as the best in the Industry. One of his greatest accomplishments took place on June 27, 1999, when he was assigned to take the pictures of the first heart transplant ever performed in Puerto Rico. Those photos were in every known publication in the Island, newspapers around the world, websites, and even in CNN.

Being a photographer was only part of the dream. His main interest has always being filmmaking. That’s when The Red Cillindrium idea was born. The original concept came from the main actor of the film, Mr-E. The movie is a mute sci-fi comedy, which commemorates the birth of cinema as a new art form. By June 15, 2002, The Red Cillidrium won 3rd place at the Liberty Film Festival in Dallas, Texas and 1st place in the International Public Film in New York as best experimental film and most recently, at the 2015 International South American Film Festival.
