BEFORE I had a chance to even give my name. My best experience was having the director and the principal cast member sit down and discuss the project with me and explain what they wanted in detail. (Oh, and I did get the role.)
Years ago when I was directing theater (and doing my own auditions) I had an African American actor beg to audition for the part of a middle aged German. He was so stunning that the writer/producer re-wrote the part for him.

Expand commentIf an actor doesn't look physically how the director/producer/ casting agent imagined them for the part (and clearly they should be using some discernment in selecting actors to attend the audition in the first place), then however good the actor is as an actor it is difficult sometimes to get further. Tough on the actor but unavoidable. Let's face it photos can be misleading. The turn down certainly shouldn't be as rude as you encountered Silke! However if someone has been called in for audition it seems silly to me for the director and others not to get a sense of them as actors, since they may be used another time for another part- as happens.

Expand postIt is really interesting how the information we need, let it be for ourself or in my case often for my clients presents itself. And what still leaves me in awe after all this time is how it usually comes in bulk until we get it. This morning I've been reading in A Course in Miracles how we surround ourselves with the environment that we have made because we want to PROTECT the IMAGE of ourselves that we have made. This image is part of this environment and what you see is already seen through the eyes of this image. Now just a few days back I found a note I took at a workshop saying: the subconscious mind will always try and prove that it is right (by trying to keep us where we are). And interestingly enough that was the exact point that Bruce Lipton PhD was drumming in all weekend. Your cells react to the signals they receive from their environment. And it is always your PERCEPTION of that environment that controls our experience. I always say when things present themselves to me 3x in a row I know I've got to listen and follow. I reckon I'll be exploring this a lot today... Have a wonderful day today and if you face any challenges please remember, it might just be perception, it might just be the old model of the world that you were taught to believe to be true. Happy Tuesday! #CreativeHighAchievers

Expand postI was sitting on the bus before and inspired by the posters across town was listening to MISS SAIGON on my phone, when "Why God Why" came on. Which put me straight back into an audition many many years ago, when I just started singing. I had chosen that song and was so scared that my knees and voice were noticable shaking and if I remember right I even started the song a third too high. Yep, that happened, which became - let's just say - very apparent when the high end came closer... I had to break it off! MORTIFIED I was asked if I wanted to have a little break and come back later, which I gladly took. The chatter in my mind in those 15 minutes probably resembled paranormal activity 1,2,3 AND 4! When they called me back in, I marched straight into the room, looked at them and told them I wasn't going to sing again. What was the point? After all I had proven already that I couldn't do it and I wanted to spare them and me the pain.. The MD just said, "Oh thats a shame, I liked what I heard so far..." But I had none of it and stormed out - MORTIFIED with myself. I was even more mortified when they called me a week later to offer me a job to cover Tony, Riff, Bernardo and Action. I still remember the confusion. Unfortunatley I wasn't able to take the contract back then, but looking back today I realised 3 things yet again: 1) WOW, our perception of each situation can be so utterly warped by our filters, stresses, fears and old patterns that we run from a lion when its actually a fluffy white rabbit wanting us to do well. 2) How grateful I am about these tools I was lucky enough to learn over the past 6 years to resolve the triggers of that kind of stress and that I get to pass them on and help others! And... 3) That I still love Miss Saigon and can't wait till it's back... but hey, who wouldn't? www.TranceCoachLondon.com

To see that even an actress of that caliber finds herself thinking that 'Everybody will find me s@$*!' It really is the sweetest thing of all to see when that pressure finally leaves someone and they can embrace and share their talent wholeheartedly, without the need of talking themselves down for whatever reason. What if you actually are on this earth to thrive and celebrate your gifts?

Expand commentHey Derrick, thank you for your welcome. What a great site! Actually I do have a question straight away. Although I have been an actor most of my life, I now run transformational programs for artists, creatives and some of the high achievers in the entertainment industry. The ones that excel in the spotlight, but might feel less like a superstar in their own head, breaking down self-sabotage patterns and often closing the gap between the image they project and how they feel inside. Obviously this network seems perfect as I understand the demands of the industry and the mindset of performers under high pressure very well, but I wasn't sure how to place myself on your site... Would you have any recommendation?
