Multi-Telly and Communicator Award winning Producer, Writer, Director
Through it all, I've learned so much about being a better storyteller in all avenues. I'd love to connect, I love to learn and meet new people!
Once named Best Comedian in Louisville in the Louisville Eccentric Observer Reader’s Choice Awards, Author/Comedienne Jessica Mathis (using the stage name Divinity Rose) transforms from geeky single mom, writer/producer to multi-talented performer. Wanting to raise her son in Kentucky, she's branched out regionally to perform in a variety of states. Jess's playfully funny observational comedy has made her an audience favorite, winning her second place in Lima’s Funniest Lady and placing her in the finals of Louisville’s Funniest Person. The Louisville Eccentric Observer also spotlighted her for comedy and spoken word along with 11 other artists of different media in their 2013 Annual Arts and Entertainment Guide, and she has been featured in Today’s Woman Magazine.
She began her comedy career in 2002 when she performed as an amateur on the Lisa Lampanelli Show at Caroline’s in New York City, and she’s since shared the stage or screen as an emcee or actress/entertainer with Nora Dunn, Al Snow, Dinky Gowen and countless others. One of her most fun roles was portraying Tony award winner Tessie O’ Shea in the sold out live 50th anniversary recreation of the Ed Sullivan show the Beatles first appeared on. When she isn’t telling jokes, Jess acts, writes and produces for both stage and screen in addition to a parallel career in journalism for local and national publications. Despite a witty sense of humor, her fiction has a tendency to wander into dark, psychological and weird Sci-Fi or fantasy territory.
In her adventures, Jess has survived a lot of crazy life moments (starting with different childhood families and childhood trauma), spoken to classrooms and organizations about creativity and overcoming trauma, raised her son, worked on television and film productions (ABC, ESPN, Travel Channel, Investigation Discovery, Others) and been heard on NPR and seen on the Syfy program “Spooked” -- which may or may not all be part of her master plan to compile the geekiest credits and weirdest epitaph of all time.
In 2019, she turned her fiery Kentucky soul toward television and screenwriting, which led to a exciting first year as a finalist for prestigious writing fellowships like Sundance Episodic Labs, Imagine Impact and a semi-finalist for the Disney/ABC Writer's Fellowship.
She has since been able to produce for national television, work as a producer/shooter, and she's been awarded 7 grants for her scripts or projects, has 8 Telly Awards, 1 Communicator award and multiple writing or comedy awards. She recently completed the UCLA extension Showrunner's Bootcamp with Cynthia Hsiung to aid in her continued interest and leadership roles in episodic entertainment.
