Your time is limited.
Our universe is a vast vacuum of space and time, containing more than
hundred billion galaxies just in the observable parts of it, every galaxy a city of
two hundred billion stars, to put that into perspective: there are more stars in
the universe then specks of sand on earth, and yet we know only one place in
this vast cosmos that nurtures life, and this life came to be after a series of
violent events, explosions of giant stars billions of years ago, a supernova, so
violent, just in one second it will produced more energy than our sun ever will
in its entire lifetime, after immense gravitational forces played their part and
unbelievable temperatures heated up the gas and brought atoms to fuse, after
a billions of years of bombardments by asteroids and comets, after all of this
horror and chaos here we are, human beings, so fragile, so gentle, hanging on
the very edge of extinction at any given moment, a drop of life in the ocean of
death.
But our time is limited, an average life expectancy of a human is seventy
years, we spend more than a third of that time sleeping, and half of what is left
on working to pay our bills, so when we ask ourselves how much time do we
have to spend with our families, how much time do we have to explore the
world or do something crazy with our friends, we now have the answer -
twenty years. This might sound dramatic but it is the ugly truth, we chose to
ignore this fact and live our lives away day to day as if we will live forever, we
close our eyes in fear of death and pray to god for a better job or fancier car
when we already have the greatest gift of god – time, and it will pass in a blink
of an eye, so do not waste it, appreciate it.
We know a lot of us struggle with depression, we know many of us have
obstacles seem impossible to overcome, but I want you to understand the
possibilities of a human being. From the begging of humanity to the end the
full potential of human mind would not come anywhere close to being realized
in its full capacity, we are unbelievably talented, smart, and strong. From where
we were born to individual personality traits, to situations we have experienced
throughout our lives, not a single one of us is exactly like one another. There an
infinite number of possible humane combinations that will never come to life,
and here you are a mere infinitesimal speck, bursting with life, a personality so
unique and complex there will never be another just like you. You are capable
of great things, but like one of the greatest innovators said “your time is
limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by
dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let
the noise of other's opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most
important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition, they
somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is
secondary” Steve Jobs.
Ever since I heard this quote my life had changed, I stopped wasting
my time on something that is not important to me. I left it all behind and
went after my dream to become a filmmaker, I have reached many goals
that otherwise I would never thought I could, and I am still going through
my journey and knowing that my time in this world is limited is the greatest
source of passion and energy to do what I love and enjoy every moment of
my life.
