Steve Payne: Special effects supervisor in Hastings, United Kingdom.

Steve Payne

Well, now and have been for the last 5 years, residing and operating in East Sussex (near Hastings) and changed my profile address to that effect, so why does "32" still keep trying to ask if I know and wish to connect to people residing and operating in Scotland?

Birdman

So I watched Birdman last month and I'm so confused as to how they did the moving camera shots in front of the mirror without showing the camera in it. Also, when the camera passes through a railing backwards in one shot, if anyone could explain how both of these effects are done it would be appreciated.

Prakash Kumararajan

Hello Joe, The reflection in mirror can be painted out / removed after shoot in Post. And regarding railing shot can you be bit detailed of the shot. Cheers Prakash

David H. Watkins

his is done by shooting through a forty five degree mirror. this allows the camera to be at right angles to the principle and not be seen in the frame

Steve Payne

My thoughts turned to smoke and mirrors, I will state that I have yet to see the film but there should be several ways to do both effects the railings and mirror shot could both be done using a perisc...

Lighting Suggestions

I'm hoping someone here may have some suggestions for an upcoming scene. I need to know the best way to light the bottom of a dark swimming pool to cast an eerie glow around a character that will be swimming up. My initial thought was to tie some weights around a few glow sticks and drop them in. Let me know if you have any other ideas.

Your description leaves much to be desired regarding the pool, on the assumption that it is man made contained and of not too great a volume and dependant on your budget, I would look into adding an a...

Hi Kirk, What makes you think the "Arts" are "Lost", just because many people think that everything has to be done with CGI doesn't mean that those of us who practice the 'Dark Arts' of Physical Special Effects and the allied arts of prosthetics, miniature makers , Matt painters and stop motion anim...
