Hello Joe, The reflection in mirror can be painted out / removed after shoot in Post. And regarding railing shot can you be bit detailed of the shot. Cheers Prakash

his is done by shooting through a forty five degree mirror. this allows the camera to be at right angles to the principle and not be seen in the frame

My thoughts turned to smoke and mirrors, I will state that I have yet to see the film but there should be several ways to do both effects the railings and mirror shot could both be done using a periscope lens arrangement, in the mirror shot this could then be digitally painted out, another method would be to do it completely digitally shooting from both sides in a green-screen environment then flipping the image to be the reflection and painting it into a digital reflection of what would be seen in the mirror, Thinking "Old school", I'm sure with a bit of tinkering to get things lined up correctly, a similar effect could be produced using a variation of the "Pepper's Ghost" technique.

This is not SPECIAL EFFECTS!. It is visual effects, animated CGI, which is part of the field of SPECIAL EFFECTS and it is about time, we the Physical Special Effects people started shouting about it, the 'computer boys (and Girls)' have for too long been allowed to shout how they can resolve all of a productions effects needs, they have their place but only enhance and produce what is truly impossible to provide, by physical means, or beyond the scope of practical construction of set or location, talent and crew will always react best to some form of physical presence rather than a ball mounted on the end of a stick or a crew member shouting bang at the top of his voice through megaphone!

I am sure you will do editing in post.... That is Post...(had to) I would tack on some led markers to then track in say Mocha or Nuke and then attach or direct my SNLight to those points as necessary...

Your description leaves much to be desired regarding the pool, on the assumption that it is man made contained and of not too great a volume and dependant on your budget, I would look into adding an agent (vitamin, protein, fluorescent dye) to the water that will fluoresce then hit it with black light, A good example can be seen in K19 the widow maker, when the reactor was leaking, to simulate the Cherenkove Effect, I believe they added tonic water to liquid in the reactor room (it's the Quinine) blacklight gave it that eerie malevolent radioactive blue glow, I would think regulating the level of blacklight should allow you to control the degree to which the liquid glows. Next thought would be LED lighting rigged underwater so low voltage, not sure how dim-able they will be as the voltage band in which an LED works is closely allied to its colour. Hey Christopher, depending on where you're coming from it's not too difficult you just have to be careful as there many streets which are just one way. I decided not to come Alistair, I didn't fancy driving into Edinburgh on a Saturday afternoon and juggling any prospective film-work alongside my job would be a problem. I'm planning to move South next year and need to save enough money for that. However, if there are other meet-ups in future - judging by the number of people who couldn't make it to this one I think that's a good idea - I would be interested.
