About Derek

I am a retired First Grade Detective of the NYPD. My twenty year journey in law enforcement combined with my formal writing training at NYU honors me the opportunity to present a very vivid, pragmatic and gritty interpretation of the crime genre that has never before been revealed. It also blesses me with the privilege of introducing female protagonists who embody the resilience, courage and intellect symbolic of those I have embraced along the way.

Unique traits: Maybe my sense of reality is warped but I truly believe if all we can expect from 'Black Hollywood' are romantic comedies, slave or butler movies then WE ARE DOOMED! There are a plethora of everyday stories and concerns that society begs to be addressed on screen that don't involve the above. I have written two original full length feature film scripts, (and re-adapted two novels from them) one short script and over 10 reality show specs on subjects pertinent to ALL people. My problem is I'm a novice at the whole 'selling myself' thing and unfortunately have met my share of brick walls when it comes to securing an agent to get me into the doors that I desire to enter.
